Pannares Ruchirananta
BIOGRAPHY
Pannares Ruchirananta (พรรณนเรศ รุจิระนันท์), known as Poy, is a Thai director whose entire recorded career is queer film and television, and who has worked for a different company almost every time.
The record begins on the production side. A co-producer credit on the feature Present Perfect Continuous Tense (ประโยคสัญญารัก, 18 July 2013) and a line producer credit on Fathers (26 May 2016). Two undated single episode directing credits also appear, on Wish Me Luck (สุดที่รักษ์) and Did You Know (รักครั้งไหนก็ใช่เธอ).
The four series credits are the substance:
- Baker Boys (รักของผม ขนมของคุณ), twelve episodes of forty five minutes from 24 November 2021 on GMM 25, produced by GMMTV. Classified boys’ love (bl), adapted from a comic by Fumi Yoshinaga, with a screenplay by Naphat Chitveerapat.
- Petrichor (หยดฝนกลิ่นสนิม), ten episodes from 23 November 2024 on ONE 31 and iQIYI International, produced by iQIYI Pictures and TV Thunder. Classified girls’ love (gl), lgbt and thriller, adapted from a novel by SixTeenSeven with a screenplay by Sammon. Co-directed with Pongsatorn Thongjaroen.
- Player (Player ไม่อาจห้ามรัก), twelve episodes from 3 October 2025 on YouTube and iQIYI International, produced by HEART POP STUDIO. Classified girls’ love (gl) and adapted from a novel.
- Be My Angel (ฉันหลงรักเทวดาของฉัน), eight episodes from 30 January 2026 on iQIYI International, produced by PENNYY STUDIO. Classified girls’ love (gl) and thai gl.
Three girls’ love series in fourteen months, for three unrelated production companies.
The record offers no birth date, no birthplace, no biography and no accounts. Wikipedia has an article on Petrichor and none on the person who directed it, which is the usual asymmetry: the work gets documented and the crew does not.
BLGLFlix editorial view
Most of the Thai profiles on this site describe people who belong somewhere. A GMMTV writer. An Idol Factory novelist. A Channel 3 house dramatist. This record is the opposite shape: four queer series, four different companies, four different distribution routes, and a career that has been inside queer production since 2013 without ever settling into a studio.
GMMTV in 2021. iQIYI Pictures and TV Thunder for ONE 31 in 2024. HEART POP STUDIO for YouTube in 2025. PENNYY STUDIO in 2026. Two of those last three are small houses with one or two titles to their name. What connects them is not a company but a buyer: iQIYI International carries three of the four.
That is worth stating clearly, because the same pattern shows up elsewhere in this catalogue: the Channel 7 elemental GL series documented on the Tinna Simapaisal profile were also carried by iQIYI International. A Chinese streaming platform is now one of the main international outlets for Thai girls’ love, funding some of it directly and distributing the rest. The irony is not lost on us: mainland Chinese danmei has to acquire a second country to get made, while a Chinese platform is helping to pay for Thai queer drama and selling it worldwide. The restriction is territorial, not commercial.
Two smaller connections in this crew list are worth keeping. Petrichor was co-directed with Pongsatorn Thongjaroen, whose earlier career this site recorded as including second assistant director on Ong Bak 3: the action to queer crossover again. And Baker Boys adapts a comic by Fumi Yoshinaga, so a Japanese manga was licensed by a Thai studio and made into a Thai BL series. The IP traffic in this genre is not one directional, and Japan is a source as well as a producer.
Finally, a freelance director with four queer series and no home studio is evidence of something the Thai industry has that nowhere else in the region does: enough queer drama being commissioned that a specialist can make a living moving between companies. In Korea a BL director writes and directs everything himself because there is no one else. Here the work is plentiful enough to be a job.
