Nathawat Piyanonpong

Nathawat Piyanonpong (Thai: ณธวรรศว์ ปิยานนท์พงศ์), known as Kla (กล้า) and widely credited as Khru Kla (ครูกล้า, literally “Teacher Kla”), is a Thai acting coach and director. Ten verified boys’ love titles carry this name as director, which is among the highest counts in this catalogue, and the coaching credit is not incidental to that.

The directing record begins with Friend Forever (2020, 12 episodes), a story of childhood friends, music and a secret crush. Then comes a steady run: Naughty Babe (2023, 8 episodes), adapted from a novel and built on amnesia, an arranged marriage and a chief executive; To Be Continued (2024, 8 episodes); Battle of the Writers (2024, 12 episodes); and Your Sky (2024, 15 episodes), which is the longest BL on the record.

Your Sky then became a small franchise. Your Sky of Us (2025, 3 episodes) follows it, and on that one the credit is director and creator, with an on-screen appearance as well.

Thai BL casts extremely young, frequently from talent competitions, modelling, or nothing at all, and asks those performers to carry twelve episodes of emotionally exposed material almost immediately. Somebody has to teach them how to do that, and it is not usually the director, because the director is busy. Here it is the same person. Our own read is that this quietly explains a great deal about why some Thai BL series get usable performances out of near-newcomers while others visibly do not, and that the acting coach is the most consequential invisible job in the entire industry. Fandom credits chemistry. Chemistry is, a good deal of the time, coaching. It is worth noticing that the person doing it in ten separate productions is named on none of the posters.
