Roj Sereeroj Jayaphorn

BIOGRAPHY

Roj Sereeroj Jayaphorn (Thai: โรจน์ เสรีโรจน์ ไชยพร; born August 22, 1985) is a Thai film director, actor and content creator, best known online under the persona Roji Sensei (โรจิเซนเซ). He plays Tanaka in GMMTV’s Cherry Magic (2023 to 2024).

His career began behind the camera. He started as an assistant director on television commercials in 2008 and moved into directing from 2010, building more than a decade of advertising work. His public service film “Dear Japan from Phuket” was recognised across Asian advertising festivals, taking the Grande Lotus Roots award at AdFest 2012. He runs the Bangkok-based production-service company 2Hands Films, and has directed commercial work for brands including OPPO and Pepsi.

In 2021 he launched the Roji Sensei channel, a comedy and Japanese-language project in which he performs multiple characters, among them the recurring “Ajarn Somchai” schoolteacher figure, which is why the sources checked also list him under the alternate credit Somchai Sudlor. The channel went viral, and by 2023 his own site reported over 200 million combined views across platforms, with roughly 580,000 TikTok followers and 200,000 on YouTube. He is fluent in Japanese, Thai and English.

His acting break came in October 2023, when GMMTV cast him as Tanaka in Cherry Magic, the twelve-episode adaptation of Yuu Toyota’s manga that ran on GMM25 from December 9, 2023 to March 2, 2024. He followed it in 2024 with the supporting role of Lord Naka in Naka De Salon.

Unlike most of the Cherry Magic supporting cast, Roj is not an agency-signed performer. He came to the role from a directing and creator career rather than through GMMTV’s artist roster, and his acting credits sit alongside continuing work as a commercial director and independent creator. His portfolio is published at roj-j.com, and IMDb additionally credits him in visual effects.

FUN FACTS

  • He is far better known in Thailand as Roji Sensei than under his own name, to the point where the sources checked file his profile under that persona.
  • The “sensei” is literal: his channel teaches and jokes about the Japanese language, and he is fluent in Japanese, Thai and English.
  • He also performs a schoolteacher character called Ajarn Somchai, which is why “Somchai Sudlor” appears as an alternate credit for him.
  • He made one of his most-watched videos answering the question his audience kept asking: whether Roji Sensei is actually Japanese.
  • He began in advertising in 2008 as an assistant director and has been directing commercials since 2010.
  • His public service film “Dear Japan from Phuket” won the Grande Lotus Roots at AdFest 2012.
  • He owns the Bangkok production-service company 2Hands Films.
  • His own portfolio site lists him at 188 cm (6 ft 2 in), taller than any of his Cherry Magic castmates.
  • By 2023 his site reported over 200 million combined views across platforms.
  • He was cast in Cherry Magic in October 2023, and it was his acting breakthrough at age 38.
  • IMDb credits him not only as an actor and director but also in visual effects.

TRIVIA

  • His own portfolio site is the primary source for this profile. roj-j.com/biography states that he began as an assistant director on television commercials in 2008 and moved to directing in 2010, a first-party account rather than a database entry.
  • The same site credits his public service film “Dear Japan from Phuket” with the Grande Lotus Roots award at AdFest 2012, and lists him at 6’2″ (188 cm), fluent in Japanese, Thai and English.
  • He runs the Bangkok production-service company 2Hands Films, which handles adverts, music videos and feature work, and has directed commercials for brands including OPPO and Pepsi.
  • He launched the Roji Sensei channel in 2021; by the end of 2023 his site reported over 200 million combined views across platforms.
  • His birth date is independently confirmed. TMDB’s person record 4569215 gives 22 August 1985 and Bangkok, Thailand, matching the database entry that first supplied it, two independent records rather than one.
  • TMDB catalogues him under four names: Sereeroj Jayaphorn, Roj Sereeroj Jayaphorn, Roji Sensei and the Japanese-script form チャイヤポーン, which is why searches under one spelling can miss him entirely.
  • His own site describes his Cherry Magic part as regular supporting cast across 10 of the 12 episodes, a more precise figure than any secondary source gives, and the reason this profile does not claim a full-series appearance.
  • He is not an agency-signed performer. GMMTV cast him for Cherry Magic but he does not appear on the GMMTV artist roster, which makes him the only member of the series’ supporting cast without an agency artist page.
  • IMDb lists him under three departments, actor, director and visual effects, at identifier nm6151879.
  • He has a Wikidata item but no Wikipedia article. Q130356436 is labelled “Roji Sensei”; no language edition carries an article, which is why the Wikipedia field on this page is empty.
