Amekiri

BIOGRAPHY

Amekiri (Japanese: あめきり) is a Japanese Boys’ Love manga artist, the writer and illustrator of Chotto Matou yo, Harutora-kun (ちょっと待とうよ、春虎くん), published in English as Hold on, Harutora-kun.

The work began as a one-shot in Shinshokan’s Dear+ magazine and was extended into a serial after readers responded to it. The serialisation ran from the November 2021 issue to the January 2025 issue, and the collected volumes were published by Shinshokan under the Dear+ Comics label. A drama CD followed on 27 October 2023. The live-action series premiered on MBS on 13 August 2026, eight episodes.

Four rungs, five years

Laid out in order, the record is a ladder rather than a launch:

  • a one-shot in a magazine, testing whether anyone cared
  • a serial commissioned because readers did, running three years and two months
  • a drama CD in October 2023, while the serial was still running
  • a live-action television series in August 2026, more than a year after the manga ended

Nearly five years separate the first appearance from the television premiere, and the manga was already finished before the cameras rolled.

BLGLFlix editorial view. Put this beside the Thai Girls’ Love records elsewhere in this catalogue and the two industries look like different species. In Thailand a web novel with a readership can be a twelve episode series inside two years, sometimes with the English translation timed to the broadcast. Japan does the opposite. Every rung here is a separate test with a separate audience, and each one had to be passed before the next was funded: does the one-shot land, does the serial hold, will people pay for a drama CD, and only then is it worth filming.

Our own read is that neither approach is better and both are consequences of who is paying. Thai Girls’ Love is commissioned by broadcasters and streamers who need finished stories quickly and buy them where they already exist. Japanese Boys’ Love is grown inside a publishing house that owns the magazine, the label, and the audience relationship, and can therefore afford to wait and let the property prove itself repeatedly. That patience is why Japanese Boys’ Love adaptations are comparatively rare, and it is also why the ones that arrive tend to be built on something that has already survived four separate votes of confidence.

There is one detail we keep coming back to. This started as a one-shot. It was not planned. Somebody drew a short story, readers asked for more, and five years later it is on national television. That is a route into the genre that a commissioning system cannot manufacture, and it only exists because the magazine was there to publish the one-shot in the first place.

TRIVIA

  • The manga began life as a one-shot and became a serial only after readers asked for more, which is an unusually visible origin for a Boys’ Love property.
  • The serialisation ran three years and two months, from the November 2021 issue of Dear+ to the January 2025 issue.
  • A drama CD arrived on 27 October 2023, while the manga was still running, making audio the second adaptation rather than the last.
  • The live-action series premiered on MBS on 13 August 2026, more than a year after the manga finished.
  • Amekiri is credited on the series as both creator and original story, across all eight episodes.
  • The property passed through four separate stages before reaching television: one-shot, serial, drama CD, live action.
  • The publisher, Shinshokan, owns both the magazine it appeared in and the Dear+ Comics label that collected it, so the whole run stayed inside one house.
