Before entering the entertainment industry, he worked at his family’s dumpling shop, which earned him the nickname “Dumpling Prince.” He was discovered by an advertising company in 2008 and appeared in numerous commercials before making his television acting debut in The M Riders (2010). He went on to take second and first male lead roles in dramas including Lion Pride (2017) and Taiwan X-Files (2022), and was nominated at the 24th Asian Television Awards for First Love (2018).

He was working in his family’s dumpling shop when an advertising agency found him. No drama school, no survival show, no trainee contract.

Lawrence Liu was discovered in 2008, spent time in commercials, and made his television debut in The M Riders in 2010. From there came second and first male leads in Lion Pride and Taiwan X-Files, and a nomination at the 24th Asian Television Awards for First Love in 2018. In 2026 he plays A Mao, a supporting part, in Smile After Tears.

Commercial work is an unfashionable training but a real one. Thirty seconds allows no exposition, so the performer has to establish a person immediately and stop. Actors who come through it tend to be efficient on screen in a way that is hard to teach in longer forms.

The nickname attached to that origin, Dumpling Prince, is recorded here because Taiwanese press used it and it is traceable, not because it is charming. Nicknames that come from publicity rather than from the performer are worth keeping for the same reason a former stage name is: they are how someone was findable at the time.
