Lee Min-jun

Lee Min-jun (Korean: 이민준) is a South Korean producer, credited on Love Class (수업중입니다, 2022), the Studio Yanggwibi Boys’ Love series that premiered on 13 May 2022 and went on to become the longest running Korean Boys’ Love property of its era.

The series was created and written by Kim Kyung-hwan and Jang Young-seon, with Jang Young-seon also directing alongside Lee Seok-yong and Lee Seong-taek. The cast is led by Sae Byeol as Kim Hyun-jae, Seo I-han as Yoon Soo-an, Lee Woo-jin as Shin Jae-min and Panutuch Saelee as Khun. It reached audiences through Viki, GagaOOLala, wavve and Cinema Heaven, and its production is credited across five separate companies: Studio Yanggwibi, Rad Film, Urban Works, BOXMEDIA and IMU studio.

One property, three seasons, four years

Love Class returned for a second season in August 2023, distributed on Viki, GagaOOLala and TVING, and a third arrives in 2026 under Box Media. Of the Korean titles in this catalogue it is the only one to reach a second season at all, let alone a third.

In Thailand a Boys’ Love series has a studio, and that studio makes it. Here a single Korean season is assembled from five separate outfits pooling money and capacity, then sold through four distributors at once. That is not a pipeline. That is a coalition put together per project.

Our own read is that the producing credit on a Korean Boys’ Love series therefore carries a different weight from the same credit in Thailand. The Thai producer works inside a machine that already exists. The Korean producer has to build the machine each time, from companies that have no standing obligation to the genre and no reason to come back if the numbers disappoint. Seen that way, three seasons of Love Class across four years and three different distribution setups is not a modest achievement. It is the single most sustained piece of Korean Boys’ Love production we hold, and it took holding a coalition together three separate times to get there.

We would rather say plainly what we cannot show. Public records for Korean producers are thin, and this one is no exception: no biography, no photograph, no dates. What the record does show is a name attached to the one Korean property in this genre that kept going, and that is worth a page of its own.
