This is the third person in our records who connects Yes or No (2010) directly to the Thai Girls’ Love wave of the 2020s, and at this point we think the pattern has stopped being a coincidence and become the actual explanation.

The director of Yes or No, Saratswadee Wongsomphet, directed The Secret of Us fourteen years later. A screenwriter who appears on screen in Yes or No went on to write Uranus 2324, the biggest Girls’ Love film Thailand has made. And this producer walked from a bit part in Yes or No, through production manager on its sequel, to producing a Girls’ Love series for national television.

The story usually told about Thai Girls’ Love is that it began around 2022 with GAP, when studios noticed the audience. Our own read, on this evidence, is that it never began at all, because it never stopped. A small crew made an independent Girls’ Love film in 2010, stayed in the industry, took the jobs that were available, and were still there when the money finally arrived. What changed in 2022 was not the existence of people who wanted to make this work. It was a broadcaster willing to schedule it.
