Song Chae-yoon

BIOGRAPHY

Song Min-jung (Korean: 송민정; born April 20, 1987), known professionally under the pen name Song Chae-yoon (송채윤), is a South Korean webtoon writer and former actor. She began her acting career in 2006 with a minor role in the film Arang, later appearing in the drama series Dine with the Gods, Master’s Sun, and The Witch’s Court.

In 2016, after eleven years as an actor, she announced on social media that she was stepping away from acting to become a writer under the new name Song Chae-yoon. She debuted as a webtoon author with Friendly Rivalry (선의의 경쟁), which launched on Naver Webtoon on July 1, 2020, and quickly climbed the platform’s rising rankings. She continues to work as a writer for YLAB, the studio that also produced Netflix’s Kingdom.

Her webtoon was adapted into the 2025 live-action drama Friendly Rivalry, produced by YLAB and STUDIO X+U for U+ Mobile TV, with Song credited as the series’ original creator.

BLGLFlix editorial view

She acted for eleven years, stopped, and wrote the thing that later won awards for somebody else.

Song Min-jung, who writes as Song Chae-yoon (송채윤), began acting in 2006 and appeared in Master’s Sun and The Witch’s Court among others. In 2016 she announced she was leaving acting to write. Her webtoon Friendly Rivalry launched on Naver Webtoon in July 2020, and its live action adaptation reached screens in 2025 as Friendly Rivalry, with her credited as original creator.

That adaptation went on to take Best Couple at two mainstream Korean award ceremonies for the pairing at its centre. The material that made those wins possible was written by a former actor who had spent over a decade on the other side of it.

Career changes out of performing are common and usually invisible, because the person stops generating credits and the record simply ends. Hers continued in a different medium, and the trail is only followable because the webtoon carried her new name and the drama credited her under it.

She now writes for YLAB, one of the studios behind the adaptation. Her page carries a birth date, both names, a documented acting debut and the pen name, and no agency for the writing work, because none has been separately announced.
