If I Love A Boy

If I Love A Boy is a 2019 Thai boys love anthology from the production house Studio Oh Ha Oh, made up of five unrelated short stories that each capture a small, tender moment of young love or friendship between boys. Rather than a single continuous plot, it works as a collection of bite sized vignettes, each running around twelve minutes and built on the soft, first crush feelings of school age romance.

The five shorts are Mom, Please Do Not Disturb (Son and Pluggy), in which a classmate takes a soaked Son home to dry off and the afternoon turns quietly sweet; You Never Eat Alone (Folk and Petch), where a simple food delivery brings two people with a shared past back to the same table; Hand On Me (Kia and Taro), about a boy nursing an injured classmate who is still hung up on his ex; Everybody Run (Ball and Poori), following an injured young runner and the caring friend who looks after him; and Night Before Everything (Shogun and Nut), in which a close friendship is tested when one boy comes out and the other struggles to react before time runs short.

Light, gentle, and unmistakably early in the Thai BL boom, the anthology leans toward innocent puppy love and bromance rather than high drama. The same young cast and production house went on to make the series TGIF: Thank God It's Friday, released around the same time, though the two projects are unconnected and the actors play entirely different roles there.

The five parts aired weekly between June 21 and July 19, 2019. Two of the shorts, Everybody Run and Night Before Everything, were originally released together, cutting back and forth between the two storylines.
