Duo

Two performers released together as a named act is a smaller proposition than a full group, and it tends to happen for specific reasons. A label may pair two artists it has already signed and put out a single under a joint name before either has a solo release. Two people who met on a production may continue as a recording act afterwards. A musician may leave a larger group and form something more focused with one collaborator.

A duo is treated here as a group rather than as a collaboration, and the distinction matters. A one off featuring credit or a soundtrack duet is not a duo: it is two solo artists on one track. What is recorded in this section is a standing act with its own name, its own releases and, usually, its own label arrangement.
