The publisher is the detail worth holding onto. Nearly every adapted queer series of 2026 documented here came from a web novel, a webtoon or a manga. Beck’s web novel became Connecting to You. Lan Lin’s danmei became Double Helix. A manhwa became Friendly Rivalry. Ayaka Matsumoto’s manga became both an anime and a live action drama. All of those arrived with a readership already counted and a platform already attached.

This one came from a book, from a literary press. 九歌出版社 is not a BL imprint. That makes Wishing Upon the Shooting Stars a different kind of object from almost everything around it: a queer television series adapted out of Taiwanese literary fiction rather than out of the fandom economy.

The production side is worth reading carefully, because the obvious summary gets it backwards. CalFilm Production, a genre house whose slate holds horror and a Disney+ crime anthology, is the co-producer here, not the lead. The lead company is 有意思國際傳媒, and this is its fifth BL series, with the same producer and the same director attached to all five. Taiwan does have a dedicated BL production house with a five title record and a standing creative partnership; it is simply not the name that appears first in most listings.

Put that together and the Taiwanese picture has three distinct routes rather than one. A platform that became a studio, GagaOOLala. A genre production company that co-produces, CalFilm. And a BL specialist with a five series slate, Yoiisz, working with the same producer and director each time. That is not a scene held together by a single champion. It is three separate answers to the same commercial question, which is a much more durable arrangement than any of them alone.
