Wishing Upon the Shooting Stars
SYNOPSIS
Wishing Upon the Shooting Stars (Traditional Chinese: 向流星許願的我們, Simplified: 向流星许愿的我们, Pinyin: Xiàng Liú Xīng Xǔ Yuàn De Wǒ Men) is a 2026 Taiwanese BL fantasy-romance television series produced by The Idea Production and Calf Film. The 12-episode series is directed by Golden Bell Award-winning director Ray Jiang (Chinese: 江睿之, also credited as Chiang Jui-chih), best known for the cult Taiwanese BL hit We Best Love (2021). It stars Jed Chung as He Xiang-yong (and his alternate identity Zhong Xiao-you) and Chu Meng-Hsuan as Chen Hao-wei, with JN Yu as Li Wan-zhe and Japanese actor Kota Kagami as Aomi Hamaguchi (Xiao Hai). The four leads are jointly marketed as the Meteor Four. The series is adapted from Taiwanese author Chung Min-Jui's (鍾旻瑞) 2019 award-winning short story The Correct Way to Watch a Shooting Star (觀看流星的正確方式).
The story follows He Xiang-yong (Jed Chung), a timid Taipei office worker who returns to his hometown on the fictional Xingpu Island after losing his job. Drowning in shame and exhaustion, he stands beneath a meteor shower and makes a desperate wish to disappear. According to a local legend, throwing a stone into the sea on a night of shooting stars can grant any wish, at a price. The next morning, Xiang-yong wakes up as a young man named Xiao You (Jed Chung), his face changed and no one remembering who he used to be. He is mistaken for a stranger and turned away by his own father. Only his best friend Li Wan-zhe (JN Yu) senses something is deeply wrong and stays by his side. The new bed and breakfast staff member Xiang-yong is drawn to turns out to be his high school crush Chen Hao-wei (Chu Meng-Hsuan), who returns to the island and finds himself inexplicably captivated by this stranger named Xiao You, while Aomi Hamaguchi (Xiao Hai) (Kota Kagami) rounds out the central quartet. As the summer meteor shower approaches once more, both men must choose between the comfortable miracle of forgetting and the painful truth of reality, a choice that cannot be undone.
Wishing Upon the Shooting Stars premiered globally on March 26, 2026 with a Taipei press event attended by the Meteor Four cast and director Ray Jiang. New episodes air every Thursday on GagaOOLala (the primary platform for the global release), Rakuten Viki, iQIYI, YOUKU, Heavenly, and Rakuten TV. Filmed over 60 days across the scenic Taiwanese regions of Chiayi, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Liuqiu Island, the series is shot in a 'travel-vlog' visual style that showcases Taiwan's coastal beauty as a healing backdrop to the body-swap fantasy. As of May 7, 2026, eight of the twelve episodes have aired, with the season finale scheduled for June 4, 2026.
