Free BL and GL Series You Can Watch Legally

You do not need a subscription to start with BL and GL. A large share of Thai, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Taiwanese series are free to watch through the studios’ own YouTube channels and through ad-supported tiers on services such as Viki, iQIYI, Viu and oneD. This guide shows which series sit on which free platform, what each free tier includes, and how to find a series that is open to you in your country.

How free BL and GL streaming works

Free does not mean one thing. On YouTube, a production company or channel uploads its own episodes and earns from advertising, so the series is free for everyone who can open the channel. On Viki, iQIYI, Viu and oneD, the service gives you a free tier that shows advertising, and keeps newer episodes, higher picture quality or a larger library behind a paid plan. Free catch-up services such as FOD hold an episode for a short window after it airs.

The practical result is that the same series can be free in one country and unavailable in another. Rights are sold by region, and a free tier in one market may not exist in the next. Each series page on this site lists its platforms, and the Where to Watch guide explains every service in detail. Use this page when you want to begin without paying.

Renkaze’s tip. A studio’s own channel is the gentlest way to test a pairing. If the first episode is free on YouTube, you can decide whether the series suits you before you open an account anywhere.

YouTube

Free with ads

Many production companies and channels publish episodes themselves, which is why YouTube is the platform that appears on the most series pages. Watching costs nothing and needs no account. YouTube Premium is a paid option that removes the ads. Because uploads are managed by each channel, the number of episodes available and the subtitle languages can differ from one series to the next, so open the video and check the caption menu before you settle in. 60 series list YouTube as a platform.

Viki

Free with ads

Viki is free with advertising. Viki Pass removes the ads and opens the subscriber section. Its subtitles are made by the viewers themselves, so a series can carry subtitles in many languages. Which series you can open depends on your country. 17 series list Viki as a platform.

iQIYI

Free tier with ads

iQIYI has a free tier with advertising. The paid VIP tier adds 1080p, more devices, advance access to episodes and no advertising. It carries Chinese, Korean and Thai drama in one place, and a number of Thai series stream there. 26 series list iQIYI as a platform.

oneD

Free tier with ads

oneD is the home app of the Thai One 31 and GMM25 channels. It has a free tier with advertising and a paid subscription above it, and it is where many GMMTV series can be followed on the channels' own app. 12 series list oneD as a platform.

FOD

Five habits that keep it legal and easy

  1. Start from the series page. It lists the platforms for that title, so you open the official source rather than a search result.
  2. Check your country. If a free platform does not show the series where you live, the page may list another service that does.
  3. Look at the captions menu. Subtitle languages depend on the platform and on each upload.
  4. Follow airing series on their channel. A series marked On Air releases new episodes on a schedule, and the airing calendar shows the days.
  5. Avoid unofficial upload sites. The people who make these series are paid through the official platforms, and unofficial copies come with no guarantee of subtitles or quality.

Questions about watching for free

Where can I watch BL series for free?

The most common free route is YouTube, where many production companies upload their own episodes. Viki, iQIYI, Viu and oneD also have free tiers with advertising. Each series page lists the platforms for that title.

Are there Thai BL series on YouTube?

Yes. Thai production companies publish many series on their own channels. The YouTube section on this page lists the Thai and other series that name YouTube as a platform.

Can I watch GL series for free?

Yes, in the same ways. GL series appear on YouTube and on ad-supported tiers, and the GL hub shows the full list of GL series on the site.

Why is a series not available in my country?

Streaming rights are sold region by region, so a platform may show a series in one country and not in another. Check the platform list on the series page for another service.

What is the difference between a free tier and a paid plan?

A free tier shows advertising and can limit newer episodes, picture quality or library size. A paid plan removes the ads and usually adds higher quality and earlier access, and the details differ by service.

Is it safe to use unofficial sites?

Unofficial copies take income away from the people who make the series and come with no guarantee of subtitles or quality. The platforms on this page are the official routes.
