An oath in the title, a rescue in the plot

The Chinese title 末誓 combines the characters for last and for oath, and the story is built on a choice rather than a battle. Lin Zai is hunted because of what is in his blood, and the turning point is his decision to save the mercenary who was sent to take him. A Lie recovers and takes Lin Zai along on the road, so a single act of mercy sets the whole journey in motion.

Hunter and prey

The fourth episode turns on Lin Zai learning that the man he trusted is the enemy who was hunting him, which resets the trust between them to zero. The episodes that follow ask how far that trust can be rebuilt while infected creatures close in. The fifth and sixth episodes confirm Lin Zai's immunity, and A Lie rushes into a crowd of infected to save him. In the tenth episode a third figure, He Yao, appears and stirs jealousy in A Lie, and the fourteenth takes the pair to a survivor camp where they look for an old friend.
