What the premise is doing

Most school BL runs on mutual obliviousness. This one does not: the audience knows from the start, one lead knows, and the other does not. That turns the usual will-they-won't-they into something closer to suspense, because the question is not whether Do-hyun feels it but how long he can keep managing it, and what the managing costs.

The keyword set is unusually honest about the register. Obsession, possession, possessive man. A series that signals that up front is either going to interrogate it or romanticise it, and which one it does is the thing worth watching for.

What to Know Going In

Do-hyun's years of quietly managing the friendship are the centre of the story, and the series has ten episodes in which to draw its line between devotion and possessiveness. What I would watch for is how Seong In-ho plays that carefulness, since the whole premise rests on it.

Where it sits

One of the more pointed Korean BL premises of 2026, and with all ten episodes now out it is short enough to finish in an evening. The two-a-week release closed the run on 25 September 2026, four weeks after the opening pair on 28 August.

Three production companies stand behind a ten-episode web series.

OAK Company, KT Studio Genie and SAMBOK Production all carry a credit on Summertime, and wavve is the platform for the run, so a production backed from three directions reaches viewers through a single door.

I Ro-mil holds the novel credit and the series creator credit at once, which puts the author of the source story on the series itself.

The season ran 28 days from first release to last. Four Hands, Two Sonatas covers a comparable stretch of the 2026 Korean calendar from the broadcast side, a television run set against a streaming one.

Themes

Expertise is what protects the secret here, not ignorance. Somebody who has already found one concealed thing tends to treat the search as finished, and the confidence that comes with having been right once is the cover a second concealment can live under. The asymmetry is built out of that rather than out of anyone being slow.

The number does work too. Nineteen years is offered as a figure rather than a feeling, and a figure invites arithmetic. In most childhood-friends romances a history that long reads as safety, a foundation to build on. Counted the other way it is a liability: the longer it has run without being named, the more there is to lose in the naming, and the more the silence starts to look like a decision somebody made.

Into that arrives a transfer student with no share in any of it. His function in this kind of story is usually rival. Here it is closer to witness, since he is the only person in the room able to see the present without nineteen years laid over it.
