BIOGRAPHY
Bae Yoon-seo (Korean: 배윤서) is a South Korean director, screenwriter, editor and producer working almost entirely in Korean boys’ love. Five productions are credited to her, and on most of them she holds more than one job.
Her main body of work is with STRONGBERRY and Matchbox. She directed and wrote all twelve episodes of Sweetheart Service (스윗하트서비스), released on YouTube from 8 May 2025, in which a fake dating contract between a job seeker and a developer who has had enough of marriage starts turning into the real thing. She then directed, wrote and edited the feature version, Sweetheart Service: The Movie, released on 9 November 2025. In October 2025 she took an executive producer credit on Kiss Kiss Sxx (키스키스X스), a twenty-eight part omnibus for Shortime built from eight separate short love stories.
In 2026 she moved to a larger production. She directs all ten episodes of Summertime (하절기) for wavve, produced by OAK Company with KT Studio Genie and SAMBOK Production, from a screenplay by Jo Yong and a web novel by I Ro-mil. Yeo Eun-ho and Cha Do-hyun have been friends for nineteen years, and Eun-ho believes he can read his friend completely, including the fact that Do-hyun’s flawless reputation is a performance. What he has never noticed is that Do-hyun has been in love with him the whole time. Kim Do-min plays Eun-ho and Seong In-ho plays Do-hyun. A further series, 그늘 아래 피는, is in production with STRONGBERRY and Matchbox.
Summertime reached wavve on 27 August 2026, a little over fifteen months after the first episode of Sweetheart Service went up on YouTube. In that stretch she has directed twenty-two television episodes, twelve for the first series and ten for the second, along with one feature film, and she has also held an executive producer credit on an omnibus of twenty-eight parts.
Bae Yoon-seo moved from YouTube and Shortime releases to a ten-episode series for wavve.
Everything before Summertime was made with STRONGBERRY and Matchbox and released on YouTube and Shortime. Summertime is a wavve series produced by OAK Company with KT Studio Genie and SAMBOK Production, so the same director now works with a different set of producers and a different platform.
Kiss Kiss Sxx, on which she is executive producer, carries both the boys’ love and the girls’ love keyword across its eight stories.
The roles shift along with the platform. On her first two projects, the series and the film of Sweetheart Service, she holds the writing credit as well as the director’s chair, and on the film she also edits. On Kiss Kiss Sxx she steps back to executive producer. On Summertime she directs from a screenplay by Jo Yong and a novel by I Ro-mil, so for the first time on her list the story comes from other hands. The two Sweetheart Service releases sit six months apart, May and November 2025, with the omnibus in between.
In my view the thread worth following in her list is what the stories share. What stayed with me is that the premise stays close in spirit, a pair of people who understand each other better than they admit, whether the start is a contract or a friendship of nineteen years. If you are new to her work, I would begin with the first episode of Sweetheart Service and then watch Summertime to see how she handles a script and a novel she did not write.
