What happens

Love Is Better the Second Time Around Season 2 (Japanese: 恋をするなら二度目が上等 season2) is the second season of the Japanese boys' love television drama based on Keiko Kinoshita's manga. It began on Tuesday 1 September 2026 in the Dramaism slot, with MBS at 24:59 and TBS at 25:26 each week, and CBC, RKB and HBC carry it later the same night. It has seven episodes. TVer offers catch up for one week after the TBS broadcast, and FOD streams it exclusively.

The manga is complete, so the second season is an original story rather than a chapter by chapter adaptation. Keiko Kinoshita, the original author, read the script in advance. Three directors share the episodes, and Shinju Funabiki also writes the scripts. Erina Koyama composes the music. Culture Entertainment is the lead company and C&I Entertainment is the production company.

The story is set two years after the end of the first season. Miyata Akihiro (宮田晃啓) and Iwanaga Takashi (岩永崇) now live together and are happy. Then a magazine interview in which Iwanaga says that someone important has come into his life prompts his former partners to start moving again. Miyata begins to worry about the shadow of those earlier relationships, and the settled life the two have built is put to the test.

Makoto Hasegawa of THE RAMPAGE returns as Miyata and Robin Furuya returns as Iwanaga. Aloha Takamatsu of Cho Tokkyu returns as Shiraishi Yuto (白石優人), and Shunya Shiraishi returns as Sugimoto Kyosuke (椙本恭介). The cast also includes Motoki Fukami, Haruse Akune of ICEx and Yusuke Onuki.

A sequel proposed by its lead

Robin Furuya wrote a project proposal himself and submitted it to the production team, and that proposal helped bring the second season about. Because the manga has finished, the team could not simply adapt more chapters, so the season is an original story, and the original author, Keiko Kinoshita, read the script beforehand. Furuya has said that the process made him feel that love does reach people.

Two years later, and living together

The first season ended happily, and the second begins with the couple settled. Miyata and Iwanaga share a home and are happy. A setting of comfort is an unusual starting point for a romance, since the usual question of whether two people will come together has been answered. The season spends its seven episodes on what happens after that.

An interview that disturbs the calm

The trigger is a magazine interview in which Iwanaga mentions that someone important has come into his life. The article reaches his former partners, who start to move again. Miyata is left to think about those earlier relationships, so the season turns on a printed sentence and what each reader does with it.

A returning ensemble

Makoto Hasegawa of THE RAMPAGE and Robin Furuya return in the lead roles, joined again by Aloha Takamatsu and Shunya Shiraishi from the first season. Motoki Fukami and Haruse Akune of ICEx play former partners of Iwanaga, and Yusuke Onuki plays the editor Arima Sota.

Shinju Funabiki writes the scripts and shares the directing with two other directors, while Erina Koyama is the composer. Mamino Kawamoto, a lawyer, is credited as adviser on LGBTQ matters.

Schedule

The drama airs in the Dramaism slot on Tuesday nights, with MBS at 24:59 and TBS at 25:26, and CBC, RKB and HBC carry it later the same night. Because the run is weekly from 1 September, the seven episodes extend into October, with episode 6 on 6 October. TVer gives one week of catch up after the TBS broadcast, and FOD is the exclusive home for streaming every episode.

Themes

The season builds its tension from what a relationship has to carry once the question of whether two people will come together has been settled. Miyata and Iwanaga live together, and the pressure comes from outside the home: a magazine interview in which Iwanaga mentions someone important brings his former partners back into view. The drama treats a printed sentence as an event, since each reader, from Miyata to the earlier partners, understands it in a different way.

Jealousy and the weight of earlier relationships are the central subjects. Miyata begins to worry about the shadow of those relationships, and the settled life the two have built is tested by it. Because the manga is complete and the season is an original story, the screenplay by Shinju Funabiki explores the years after the source rather than retelling it.

Best scenes

In episode 5, broadcast on 29 September, Iwanaga asks Miyata whether he will become his lifelong partner, and Miyata cannot give an answer.
