Robin Furuya, Japanese actor

Robin Furuya

BIOGRAPHY

Robin Furuya began his acting career in 2014 after returning to entertainment work in 2013. His early television credits include the NHK BS Premium programme Owakon TV in 2014, the Nagoya Broadcasting drama Omoisomeshi, Koi Uta Hyakunin Isshu in 2015, where he played Miyano, and the Fuji TV drama Kuro Tokage in 2015 as Kuroiwa Masaru. In 2017 he appeared in the film Les Garcons-Bonbons 2 as Sasuke, and in the series Face, Cyber Hanzai Tokusouhan as Sasaki Takeo. In 2019 he took the part of Saeki Toma in episode 9 of the Fuji TV series Sherlock.

The year 2020 brought a run of guest roles, including Yuzuki Kentaro in an episode of Lunch Gokon Tantei on Yomiuri TV, Nakamoto Nobuhiro in Keiji to Kenji, and Shinozaki Kenki in Kaseifu no Mitazono, both on TV Asahi. The most visible work of that period was Kamen Rider Saber, which ran on TV Asahi from September 2020 to August 2021, where he played Storious, also known as Kamen Rider Storious. He returned to the character in the Kamen Rider Saber Prologue special in 2020 and the Sword of Logos Saga special in 2021. In 2021 he also played Shimomura Ryoji in an episode of Rasen no Meikyu, a TV Tokyo series about DNA forensics.

In 2022 he built a steady record of supporting parts. He played the detective Nozue Takamasa in Tobo-i F on Nippon TV, Matsuda Daiki in Motokare no Yuigonjo on Fuji TV, Amano Yoshihide in Nice Flight on TV Asahi, and Taniguchi Leo in an episode of the WOWOW series Hotel Next Door. In 2023 the list grew further with Hosaka Daisuke in Kekkon Yoteibi on MBS, Saeki Kaito in Interphone ga Naru Toki on TV Osaka, Aoyama Masanobu in the NHK special The Voices at War, and Mizugami Ryo in the TBS series VIVANT, a role that drew wide attention. In November 2023 he led an episode of Kiss x Kiss x Kiss, Love ii Shower on TV Tokyo as Matsushita Ryo.

His first lead in a serial drama arrived in March 2024 with Love Is Better the Second Time Around on MBS and TBS. Furuya played Iwanaga Takashi, a successful university associate professor who meets his high school first love again when a magazine editor, Miyata Akihiro, played by Makoto Hasegawa, comes to request a column, and who then pursues him persistently. The role returned in the film version, Love Is Better the Second Time Around special edition, released on December 13, 2024. Elsewhere in 2024 he played Amamiya Junichi in Kuro Tokage, Atago Jiu in Tengu no Daidokoro Season 2, both on BS-TBS, and Shiraishi Yuji in Watashitachi ga Koi suru Riyu on TV Asahi, and he appeared in the film Dear Family as Miura.

In 2025 he joined the streaming series I Became the Main Role of a BL Drama Season 2, shown on Telasa from June 13 to July 25, as Haibara Ryunosuke, alongside Abe Alan, Akutsu Nichika, Watanabe Shu and Ogoe Yuki. The same year he took roles as Kinjo Itsuki in Replica: Revenge of the Ex-Wife, Hirose Takaomi in Whether or Not, and Aoshiro Seiya in The Golden Egg. The film Ai no Gotoku opened on January 23, 2026, with Furuya as Oikawa Hayao, and in September 2026 he returned as Iwanaga Takashi in Season 2 of Love Is Better the Second Time Around on MBS and TBS, a series that starts on September 1 and runs for seven episodes.

One observation links his major roles. Mizugami Ryo in VIVANT and Storious in Kamen Rider Saber were parts inside very large ensembles, where a character is defined by a few scenes and a strong visual identity. Iwanaga Takashi works the opposite way, because the story rests on a two person relationship and Season 2 goes back into his past through the former partners who return. The move from ensemble characters to a role that is revisited and deepened across two seasons shows a performer who is comfortable with both scales of storytelling.
