The shortest series reviewed here runs 30 minutes end to end. The longest runs 37.5 hours. Across the 179 series with both an episode count and a per episode duration, the middle sits at 7.2 hours. The distance between those two poles is a factor of 75.
What a Series Needs Before It Can Be Counted
Of the 215 BL and GL titles reviewed here, 179 have a complete runtime: an episode count, a per episode duration in minutes, and the product of the two. Those 84 are the sample for everything below. The other 37 are left out for three reasons. Twelve web novels, seven novels, five manga, one manhwa and one manhua have no screen runtime to measure. Two live action films, one anime film and one musical have a single length rather than an episode pattern. Seven scripted series have no published episode duration, and guessing one would have bent every figure here.
Thirteen of the 84 state a range rather than a fixed length, usually because episodes vary week to week. GELBOYS lists 55 to 77 minutes. The midpoint of the stated range is used in every calculation, so GELBOYS enters at 66 minutes and 16.5 hours total.

Half of the Series Reviewed Fit Inside One Weekend
Forty-nine of the 84 series run under 8 hours in total. Twenty-seven run under 5 hours, and 18 run under 3. That last group is the one episode counts hide: Backdoor is 4 episodes of 10 minutes, Fix the Error! is 6 of 9, and Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami (Anime) is 8 of 6. Each finishes inside a single evening with time left over.
At the other end, the 14 series of 12 hours or more account for 236 of the 650 hours in the sample. That is 36 percent of the measured screen time sitting in a sixth of the series.
Every Episode That Runs an Hour or Longer Is Thai
Twelve reviewed series carry a per episode length of 60 minutes or more. All 12 are Thai productions, and they include The Heart Killers at 68 minutes, Love of Silom at 67, and Ticket to Heaven at 65. No reviewed series from any other country reaches the hour mark per episode.
This is the shape of a weekly broadcast slot rather than a preference. Forty-one of the 47 Thai series sit between 45 and 70 minutes per episode, which is a television hour with advertising removed. The Thai median is 52 minutes across 10 episodes, giving a median total of 8.7 hours, the highest of any country with more than two series.
Japan and Korea Build in Half Blocks, and Stop Early
All 10 reviewed Japanese series run under 30 minutes per episode, with a median of 24. The longest Japanese commitment is Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! (Anime) at 4.8 hours, and the live action 2020 series sits at 4.6. That 24 minute figure is a late night half hour slot minus its commercial break, and nine of Japan’s 10 series land in the 2 to 5 hour band.
Korea runs shorter still per episode, with a median of 21 minutes, but it varies more in how many it makes. Love Class is 6 episodes of 21 minutes for 2.1 hours; Friendly Rivalry is 16 of 30 for 8.0. The Korean median total of 2.5 hours is the lowest of any major producer, and it is driven by short form web output rather than by shorter seasons.
Episode Count on Its Own Predicts Almost Nothing
Ten episodes is the most common season length with 18 series, and twelve is next with 17. Twelve means completely different things by country. Wishing Upon the Shooting Stars from Taiwan is 12 episodes of 36 minutes, or 7.2 hours. Love of Silom from Thailand is 12 episodes of 67 minutes, or 13.4. Same season length, nearly double the time.
The pattern holds at the country level. China and Taiwan share a median of 12 episodes, but China’s median episode is 44 minutes against Taiwan’s 26, so the median Chinese series asks for 7.3 hours and the median Taiwanese one asks for 5.6. Per episode length, not episode count, is the number that decides your weekend.

Where the Figures Are Approximate
Total minutes is episode count multiplied by episode duration, and total hours is that divided by 60. Where a duration is stated as a range, the midpoint is used. Country is the first country listed, which assigns each of the four co-productions in the sample to one origin only. Figures are as of 14 September 2026.
Franchises are the clearest source of double counting. Fourever You Part 2 is listed at 24 episodes and 22.8 hours, and its three instalments are also listed separately at 8 episodes each. Anyone watching the umbrella entry and the three parts would not be watching 45 hours. The band table and the country medians treat those as four entries, which inflates the count of Thai series in the upper bands. Removing the umbrella entry leaves the overall median at 7.2 hours, but it does change the Thai count.
Thai episodes look like they are getting shorter, with a median of 56.5 minutes for 2024 series, 52.0 for 2025 and 51.0 for 2026. The year groups hold 11, 7 and 24 series, and the sample is heavily weighted toward 2026. A drift of five minutes across samples that small is not a trend, and none is claimed.
Durations are nominal slot lengths, not measured files. An episode listed at 45 minutes may run 43 or 47 in practice, and recaps and end credits are included. Treat every total here as accurate to within about five percent, not to the minute.
