What happens

The Loyal Pin (Thai: ปิ่นภักดิ์; RTGS: Pin Phak) is a 2024 Thai historical girls' love (GL) drama adapted from Mon Maew's novel ปิ่นภักดิ์ and produced by Idol Factory for Workpoint TV, directed by Kittisak Cheewasatjasakun with a screenplay by Tinna Simapaisal. Set within a Thai aristocratic household, the story follows Princess Anin (Becky Armstrong) and Khunying Pin (Sarocha "Freen" Chankimha), companions who grew up together. When Anin is sent to study in England, the years apart lead her to recognize that her feelings for Pin run deeper than friendship.

Anin returns to Thailand determined to confess, only to find that Pin has already been promised in an arranged engagement to Khun Chai Kueakiat (Chatchawit Techarukpong), a match bound by family duty and social hierarchy rather than affection. Caught between aristocratic obligation, court expectations, and her own resurfacing feelings, Pin must decide whether loyalty to her family's arrangement can outweigh what she has always felt for Anin. The two navigate disapproving relatives and social pressure with support and complications from Anin's own circle, including Patthamika (Irvin Osathanond) and Alisa (Alicia Laisuthruklai), across sixteen episodes stretching from quiet longing to open confrontation with tradition.

The Loyal Pin reunited Becky Armstrong and Sarocha Chankimha two years after their pairing in GAP The Series (2022), known by the name "FreenBecky." Airing weekly on Workpoint23 with an extended, multi-language streaming edition via Idol Factory's YouTube channel, the series moved from GAP's workplace setting to a period-adjacent aristocratic backdrop and was recognized across multiple Thai entertainment awards shows, including repeated Couple of the Year and Series of the Year honors.

Two years after GAP, Becky Armstrong and Freen Sarocha Chankimha returned in The Loyal Pin with a bigger canvas: a sixteen-episode period-adjacent drama built around aristocratic duty, arranged engagement, and a love story stretched across years of separation.

The Leads

Armstrong's Anin carries most of the story's emotional momentum as the one actively pursuing what she wants, while Chankimha's Pin is written with more restraint, torn between obligation and feeling, a dynamic that inverts the power balance from GAP.

The longer episode count gives the central relationship more room than GAP had, and the arranged-engagement obstacle runs across most of the sixteen episodes.

What Works

  • Raised stakes: an aristocratic setting and an already-engaged love interest give the central couple's path real obstacles beyond miscommunication.
  • Lead chemistry, again: Armstrong and Chankimha's dynamic from GAP carries into more dramatic material.
  • Wide, free access: Idol Factory's extended YouTube streaming edition, later expanded to 13+ subtitle languages, made the series available internationally.

The Verdict

The Loyal Pin trades GAP's workplace-comedy energy for period melodrama, and the romance unfolds as a slow burn across all sixteen episodes.

Final Score: 7.5/10

Sixteen episodes at 66 minutes is 17.6 hours of television.

That total is the first practical fact to know before starting. The series went out weekly at 22:15 on Sundays, running from 4 August to 17 November 2024. Its original audience therefore lived with the story for 105 days. Watching it now means setting aside the equivalent of two full working days.

The length also explains how the central obstacle is built. An arranged engagement held across sixteen long episodes has to keep finding new pressure, which is a structural demand a shorter format never faces.

The story comes from Mon Maew's 2023 novel ปิ่นภักดิ์, with the screenplay by Tinna Simapaisal.

Idol Factory's earlier GAP ran twelve episodes at 64 minutes, which comes to 12.8 hours. Five hours separate the two runs from the same studio, and the longer one uses that room on separation rather than on workplace comedy.

The two series by the same pairing also differ in tempo. GAP went out late on Saturday nights and paused over the new year, while The Loyal Pin ran on Sunday evenings at 22:15 for sixteen consecutive weeks without a break, from August into November. The same pairing had also appeared in the feature film Uranus 2324, which opened in cinemas on 4 July 2024, exactly a month before this series began. It suits viewers who like slow-burn period melodrama built on a childhood friendship and who are prepared to spend a season with a single obstacle.

Themes

The adjective in the title belongs to Pin, and the series is careful about which of the two women it attaches to. Anin takes the initiative: she is the one sent abroad, the one who comes home with a decision already made, the one who arrives intending to say it out loud. Pin is asked to stay still and stay faithful, first to a family arrangement and then to something else. The series takes the word from its own title and asks who is permitted to earn it, and who is simply assigned it.

Waiting is also the only action the household approves of. Every other move either woman makes reads as disobedience, while stillness reads as virtue, which means the story can only advance when somebody accepts being read badly.

Stretched across sixteen long episodes and a story spanning roughly two decades, that asymmetry is the engine. The obstacle is not a misunderstanding that a single conversation could clear. It is a settled expectation about who does the waiting.

Interesting facts

  • Recognition travelled a long way from Bangkok. The series took GL Series of the Year at Brazil's BreakTudo Awards 2025, and three prizes at the Brazilian SEC Awards 2025 including Asian Series and Favorite Couple.
  • At the HUB Awards 2025 it collected eight wins, among them Series of the Year, Chemistry of the Year, Opening of the Year and Best Production of the Year. Kittisak Cheewasatjasakun took Best Director at the 13th Ganesha Awards 2025.
  • The Thai GL Awards Japan 2025 named it Best Work and gave Best Music to "Cheevee", the duet performed by the two leads.
  • The Idol Factory YouTube run passed 100 million views while the series was still airing, and has since totalled more than 325 million across the sixteen episodes.

How it was made

Characters were announced on August 18, 2023 and costume fittings began on October 23, 2023. Cameras rolled from November 20, 2023 to June 11, 2024, a 55 day shoot spread across roughly seven months. Kachen Sodpho served as executive producer for Idol Factory alongside Suppapong Udomkaewkanjana.

Promotion ran through midsummer: teasers on June 30 and July 8, 2024, a trailer on July 21, and a gala premiere on July 28 at MCC Hall, The Mall LifeStore Ngamwongwan in Bangkok. A Lantern Night event followed on October 13 at MCC Hall, The Mall LifeStore Bangkhae. The finale was screened for audiences on November 17, 2024 at the Siam Pavalai Royal Grand Theatre in Bangkok, and again in Macau at The Venetian on November 23.

The soundtrack pairs two songs by established Thai vocalists, "Yard Petch" by Wichayanee Piaklin and "Until That Day" by Rudklao Amratisha, with "Cheevee", a duet by the two leads.
