Girl Group

Girl groups reach this catalogue through two routes. Some of the performers in GL series come from pop groups and were known as singers before they were cast, and some take up music after a series, released through the same company that produced it. Either way the group is a separate body of work from the filmography, with its own debut date, label and line up, which is why it is kept as its own record here.

The format is broadly the same as its counterpart: a named line up with assigned positions, a coordinated concept, a release schedule of singles and mini albums, and live and fan event work that can take up more of the year than filming does. A large share of these acts were formed through survival programmes, where the final membership is decided by audience voting.

Several of the groups listed here have since concluded. That matters for a reader tracing a career, because a performer who appears in a recent series may have spent the earlier part of the decade in a group that no longer exists, and that part of the record is easy to lose.
