About this archive
Memory loss is the device here. One character cannot remember the other, or cannot remember what happened, and the story is shaped by what that absence does to a relationship both people cannot equally account for.
It asks a sharp question of a romance: how much of this is the history and how much is the person. Someone falling for the same partner twice, with none of the reasons available to them, is a claim about attachment that a straightforward love story cannot make. Used badly it is a shortcut; used well it is an argument.
Expect a withheld past, a character who knows and will not say, and a recovery that arrives at the worst possible moment. Second chance and melodrama tags sit close to this one.
