About this archive
Singapore holds two quite different groups, and knowing that makes this page much more fun. The first group is homegrown and small. Getaway, billed as the country’s first BL drama, was made by Dear Straight People, an LGBTQ+ media outlet, and filmed in Bangkok. The Pure Vanilla shorts and Straight Best Friend followed, all self funded and all measured in minutes. Straight Best Friend has a curious story: its script was first drafted by a language model and then reworked by human writers, which the producers openly shared.
The second group is Mandarin language productions with Chinese casts that carry Singapore on their paperwork: Kill to Love, The Sparkle in Your Eye, Lost to You and Double Helix. That is why you will see them filed under both Singapore and China.
My tip: for a sweet, quick watch, start with Getaway, then try Pure Vanilla. If you want something bigger and more dramatic, Kill to Love and Double Helix are waiting. Two very different moods under one flag.
