Matthew Han - Hong Kong actor and model, played detective Xie Jiahua in Sammy's Children's Day

Matthew Han

BIOGRAPHY

Matthew Han (Chinese: 幸卓輝, Xing Zhuohui; born December 10, 1992) is a Hong Kong model and actor who has built the second half of his career across Hong Kong and Taiwanese screen production. He came to acting from commercial modelling, where seasonal fashion campaigns made up the bulk of his early professional work, and he has described the move into drama as a deliberate decision to keep equipping himself during the long gaps between castings.

Han’s first widely seen screen work came through a Hong Kong casting programme and the Hong Kong-Taiwan production Sword Dance, in which he played a physically disabled character while performing sword-fighting and hockey sequences. In 2025 he played Bu Xing in the Taiwanese BL series Fight for You, an intelligence-agency investigator written with absolute moral clarity, a man who, in Han’s own description, sees only Yes and No and keeps no grey areas with the officers under him. The director cast him at their first meeting, citing his reserved bearing, his glasses and the Hong Kong accent in his Mandarin, which the production then wrote into the character’s backstory as an officer seconded from Hong Kong to Taiwan.

In 2026 he joined the Chinese-Hong Kong drama Sammy’s Children’s Day, set in the 1980s Kowloon Walled City, as the detective Xie Jiahua, appearing across all nine episodes in a supporting lead role. Han speaks Cantonese natively and retains conversational Mandarin from a Hong Kong primary school that taught Chinese through Mandarin immersion; he arrived two weeks early for rehearsals on Fight for You and practised extensively while deliberately preserving his accent for the character. He has said he intends to divide future work between the Hong Kong and Taiwanese markets and not commit to either.

The rest of his credited run sits in long ensemble series. In 2022 he made a guest appearance as Timothee in episodes eighteen and nineteen of the twenty episode series In Geek We Trust. In 2024 he played Carter, a supporting role, in the thirty episode The Money Game. Fight for You followed in 2025 over twelve episodes, and in 2026 he returned to the world of In Geek We Trust as Timothy in its fifteen episode second run, In Geek We Trust 2.0.

The Accent Stays, Thank You Very Much

My favourite Matthew Han story is about his voice. Moving into Taiwanese television, he could have sanded his Hong Kong accent down. He kept it on purpose, practised his Mandarin around it, and turned up two weeks early for rehearsals. The Fight for You production wrote it straight into the character: Bu Xing became an officer seconded from Hong Kong to Taiwan. That is how you make a quirk into canon.

Yes, No, and Nothing in Between

Start with Fight for You from 2025. Han describes Bu Xing as a man who sees only Yes and No and keeps no grey areas with the officers under him, which is a delicious kind of character to watch in an intelligence-agency story. The director cast him at their first meeting, pointing to his reserved bearing, his glasses and that accent. Twelve episodes, and he is the strict one in the room.

Back to Hong Kong, Back in Time

Next stop: Sammy’s Children’s Day from 2026, where he plays the detective Xie Jiahua in the Kowloon Walled City of the 1980s, across all nine episodes. Two investigators in a row, two different cities. If you like a man with a badge, this is your double bill.

For the Completionists

Before the BL roles came modelling, a casting programme and Sword Dance, where he took on sword-fighting and hockey sequences. Then the ensemble shows: Timothee in two episodes of In Geek We Trust, Carter in The Money Game, and Timothy in In Geek We Trust 2.0. He has said he plans to split his work between Hong Kong and Taiwan, so keep an eye on both.
