The Summer you Kissed Me

The Summer You Kissed Me (被你吻过的夏天; pinyin: Bèi Nǐ Wěn Guò de Xiàtiān) is a 2026 Chinese short-form boys' love web drama set in an old-town guesthouse far from the noise of the city. Gao Ran (Wang Chen Rui) arrives for a summer that is supposed to be uneventful and ends up sharing a room with a housemate his own age (Chen Zihan), whose closeness becomes harder to ignore with every passing day. The setting does most of the early work: narrow corridors, shared fans, a courtyard that traps the heat, and the enforced intimacy of two people living in a space too small for either of them to hide in. What begins as ordinary politeness between strangers turns, almost imperceptibly, into something neither is willing to name out loud.

Across the days that follow, the series builds its tension out of small things rather than big events. There is teasing that goes on a beat too long, a heart-racing moment when one of them is pinned against a wall, a suggestive lychee-flavoured drink that becomes the guesthouse's unofficial signature, and a tender sketch made at bedtime that says more than either boy has managed to say directly. The ambiguity is deliberate and sustained: nobody declares anything, and the story lets the audience sit inside the same uncertainty the characters do, reading gestures for meaning and never quite being sure. Wang Chen Rui plays Gao Ran as a comeback role after time away from the screen, and the hesitancy in that performance suits the material, carrying the summer toward the single kiss the title promises without ever making the road there feel inevitable.

Directed by MR.D, the microdrama runs five compact episodes of roughly ten to thirteen minutes each, released weekly worldwide from 4 June 2026 through the Secret Of Us Official (我们的秘密) YouTube channel, with early access for channel members. It belongs to the recent wave of independent Chinese-language BL microdramas that trade broadcast scale for intimacy and speed, and it leans hard into the aesthetic side of that format: soft light, long silences, a colour palette built around heat and dusk. Underneath the styling it is a nostalgic and faintly melancholic coming-of-age romance about first love, desire and vulnerability, more interested in the feelings that outlast a season than in what happens once the season is over.
