Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! Special Edition re-edits the franchise's 2024 television anime into a single feature, and the story it compresses is the one every other version of Cherry Magic is built on. Kiyoshi Adachi (Chiaki Kobayashi) is an unremarkable salaryman who reaches his thirtieth birthday having never been in a relationship, and discovers that the old superstition about virgins becoming wizards has quietly come true: from that morning on, he can hear the thoughts of anyone whose skin touches his. The first mind he reads belongs to Yuichi Kurosawa (Ryota Suzuki), the handsome, effortlessly capable colleague the whole office admires, and what comes through is not small talk but the fact that Kurosawa has been in love with him for years and has never once intended to say so.

From there the film moves through the same beats as the series. Adachi's first instinct is to decide he has misheard, because a man like Kurosawa could not possibly want a man like him, and the drama comes not from secrecy but from that refusal to be convinced. Kurosawa, who has no idea he is being read, simply keeps being patient. Around the leads the workplace and the neighbourhood fill in: Masato Tsuge (Makoto Furukawa), the withdrawn writer who lives close to Adachi, and Minato Wataya (Gen Sato), the young delivery worker who keeps turning up at his door, along with Yuta Rokkaku (Yusuke Shirai) and Nozomi Fujisaki (Ami Koshimizu) in the office itself. Sixty minutes is aggressive compression for twelve episodes, and the cut openly assumes prior knowledge, playing as a companion piece for viewers who already know these characters rather than as a way into the story.

Animated by Satelight and distributed by avex pictures, the film opened in Japanese cinemas on 13 December 2024 at a running time of roughly 60 minutes, with Yoshiko Okuda, who directed the television anime, returning to oversee it. What separates it from a routine recap is the new material: narration newly recorded by the two leads, animated footage that did not appear in the broadcast version, and a new ending theme, which give the story's quieter moments a different weight. The tone is unchanged from the rest of the franchise, gentle and almost entirely free of cruelty, treating a gay office romance as something ordinary and using the mind-reading to remove misunderstanding rather than to manufacture it. Distribution has stayed within Japan, no international licence for the Special Edition has been announced, and the twelve-episode television anime, adapted from Yuu Toyota's manga, remains the version available worldwide. It is easily confused with Cherry Magic! THE MOVIE, the 2022 live-action sequel, which is a separate production.
