BIOGRAPHY
Naoyuki Miura (Japanese: 三浦直之; born October 29, 1987) is a Japanese playwright and screenwriter. He wrote the screenplay for the 2026 MBS boys’ love drama The Boy and I Who Will Break Up in 100 Days, adapted from the novel by the late Asahara Naoto.
Born in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, and raised partly in Onagawa before his family settled in Tomiya from the third grade, he enrolled in the Department of Theatre at Nihon University College of Art after failing the entrance exam for the film department, and later left the program without graduating.
In 2009 he co-founded the theater company Rolo with university classmates, and has written and directed every one of its productions since. His stage play Kazoku no Koto, Sono Ta Takusan no Koto won the Sato Sakichi Award for Best Screenplay at Oji Little Theater’s playwriting competition in 2009, and his play Handsome na Daigo was a finalist for the 60th Kishida Kunio Drama Award in 2015. He previously adapted another Asahara Naoto novel for television as Fujoshi, Ukkari Gay ni Koku., for which he won the Screenplay Award at the 16th Confidence Awards.

Small theatre companies are a real institution in Japan rather than a rehearsal stage for television. A group forms, writes and stages its own work for years, builds a following in a few hundred seats at a time, and its writer develops a voice with no producer standing over it. Television then hires that voice for exactly what it built.
That is a different provenance from a screenwriter who came up inside the broadcast system, and it is worth recording because the adaptation choices on a novel are where a writer’s own instincts show most clearly.
