BIOGRAPHY

Naoyuki Miura (Japanese: 三浦直之; born October 29, 1987) is a Japanese playwright and screenwriter. He wrote the screenplay for the 2026 MBS boys’ love drama The Boy and I Who Will Break Up in 100 Days, adapted from the novel by the late Asahara Naoto.

Born in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, and raised partly in Onagawa before his family settled in Tomiya from the third grade, he enrolled in the Department of Theatre at Nihon University College of Art after failing the entrance exam for the film department, and later left the program without graduating.

In 2009 he co-founded the theater company Rolo with university classmates, and has written and directed every one of its productions since. The same year, his stage play Kazoku no Koto, Sono Ta Takusan no Koto was selected in Oji Little Theater’s playwriting competition, where it took the Sato Sakichi Award for Best Screenplay. His play Handsome na Daigo was a finalist for the 60th Kishida Kunio Drama Award.

From 2015 he has also run the Itsu-Taka series, a set of connected ensemble pieces of about sixty minutes each written for high school theatre clubs, with scripts available free of charge to students.

On screen, he adapted another Asahara Naoto novel for television as Fujoshi, Ukkari Gay ni Koku., for which he won the Screenplay Award at the 16th Confidence Awards. He also co-wrote the screenplay of the film Summer Film ni Notte (2021) and wrote the screenplay of Toritsukare Otoko (2025).

One detail of the timeline stands out. Rolo and his first prize both date from 2009, while he was still a student, and he has remained the sole writer and director of the company for seventeen years.

Naoyuki Miura writes and directs for his own theatre company and has adapted two novels by the same author for television.

He wrote the screenplay for The Boy and I Who Will Break Up in 100 Days in 2026, after Fujoshi, Ukkari Gay ni Koku..

Rolo, founded in 2009, has been staging his plays ever since.

In my view, the notable thing about Miura is that the stage never became a side project. He has kept one company going for seventeen years, written every production, and then carried that habit into scripts for other people’s material. A playwright’s ear for dialogue suits stories that turn on conversation between two people, and that is what stood out to me in the two Asahara Naoto adaptations. A newcomer to his writing could start with Fujoshi, Ukkari Gay ni Koku. and then move to the 2026 series to hear how his scripts sound seven years apart.
