Chung Su-bin
BIOGRAPHY
Chung Su-bin (Korean: 정수빈; born August 17, 1998), also romanized as Jung Soo-bin, is a South Korean actor signed to J,Wide-Company. She trained at the Korea National University of Arts and stepped onto screen in 2020 with the drama Live On, where she played Lee Sun-joo.
Her early years were spent in supporting parts. In 2021 she appeared as a female student in Dark Hole and made her first film appearance as Yeon-hee in A Lonely Island in the Distant Sea. In 2022 she took Baek Mi-joo in Juvenile Justice, Baek Sun-yu in the Disney+ series Rookie Cops and Tae So-yeon in Revenge of Others.
The series that changed her position was Trolley on SBS, which ran from late 2022 into early 2023. Playing the mysterious Kim Soo-bin, she had her first lead role, and the work earned her Best New Actress at the 2023 SBS Drama Awards. She also played Lee Su-ryun in Island in the same period, and in 2023 she took the supporting part of Na Ri in the film It’s Okay!, which premiered at the 28th Busan International Film Festival and later screened at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival before opening in Korean cinemas on February 26, 2025. In 2024 she played Bong Nan-sil in Chief Detective 1958.
In 2025 she became a co-lead in Friendly Rivalry, playing Woo Seul-gi, a transfer student at the elite Chaehwa Girls’ High School. Her scenes run opposite Hyeri, who plays Yoo Je-yi, with Kang Hye-won and Oh Woo-ri among the wider cast. The pairing won prizes in its own right: Best Couple at the APAN Star Awards and Best Couple at the Korea Drama Awards, with Hot Star (Female) added at the latter.
The same year brought Best New Actress at the Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards, and a Best New Actress nomination at the Blue Dragon Series Awards for Woo Seul-gi.
Chung Su-bin spent her first three years on screen in supporting parts before Trolley gave her a lead.
What stayed with me is how steady the climb looks from the side. Between 2020 and 2022 she plays a student, a rookie officer and a young woman caught in someone else’s revenge, and then Trolley hands her a character nobody around her can read. Kim Soo-bin is written as a puzzle, and she plays it without explaining it.
In my view Friendly Rivalry is where that restraint pays off in a different key. Woo Seul-gi arrives in a school where everyone already knows the rules, and Chung lets the discomfort show in small moments rather than speeches. If you are new to her work, I would start with Trolley and then watch Friendly Rivalry to see how far the same quiet control can travel.
