BIOGRAPHY

Makoto Furukawa (Japanese: 古川慎, born 29 September 1989) is a Japanese voice actor and singer from Kumamoto Prefecture, signed to Toys Factory. He is best known outside Japan as the voice of Saitama in One-Punch Man.

He can name the moment that set the whole career in motion. He was five years old when he heard Hikaru Midorikawa playing Heero Yuy in Gundam Wing, and the voice stayed with him. Anime itself came later, in junior high, through a satellite channel. Then in high school a friend passed him a brochure for the Fukuoka School of Music, which mentioned that Midorikawa was coming in as a guest lecturer. He enrolled on the strength of that line.

His first paid voice work came in 2009, while he was still a student, as Thaddeus in the game Ougon no Kizuna. His professional debut proper followed in 2011 as Satoshi Yoshino in the web anime Busou Chuugakusei, and in 2012 he took a job as a motion actor on the PlayStation 3 game White Knight Chronicles. His first leading role in a television anime came in 2013 as Banri Tada in Golden Time.

Two years later came Saitama. One-Punch Man put him in front of a global audience, and the roles since have been steady and often central: Yutaro Kindaichi in Haikyu!!, Benimaru in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Miyuki Shirogane in Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, Takekazu Ejiri in RE-MAIN, Yamada Asaemon Eizen in Hell’s Paradise, Makoto Shishio in the 2023 Rurouni Kenshin, Spinel in Pokemon Horizons, Akira Inukai in Solo Leveling and Ryo Ikaruga in Kaiju No. 8. He won Best Supporting Actor at the 14th Seiyu Awards in 2020.

He works as a musician alongside the voice acting. He made his singer debut on Lantis in July 2018, has performed theme songs for SHIMONETA, One-Punch Man and Please Put Them On, Takamine-san, and has co-hosted a radio show with the voice actor Yusuke Kobayashi since 2016. He spent six years at Space Craft Entertainment, went freelance in September 2018 and joined Toys Factory that December.

He voices Masato Tsuge in the Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! anime.
