What happens

Unlucky Bae is a Thai boys' love romantic comedy with a fantasy streak, made by GMMTV with Yolo Production. It airs on GMM25 on Thursdays at 8:30 PM from 6 August 2026, and Netflix carries each episode worldwide at 9:30 PM Thai time on the same night.

Rin is a fine arts student and the heir to a family of sorcerers. He has always tried to keep away from that side of his family, and he is blessed with extraordinary good luck. After a painful breakup he sees his ex Grit with a new partner, Moji, drinks too much and uses Grit's pen to cast a curse of revenge. The pen turns out to belong to Khobfah, a third year business administration student and a friend of Grit, so the spell lands on the wrong person.

Khobfah's life begins to fall apart under a run of bad luck that he cannot explain. Rin decides to stay close to him and protect him while the misfortune plays out, and a romance develops between the two students as they spend their days together. The open question is how Khobfah will react if he ever learns the truth, and the story is built around the effort to turn bad luck back into good.

Mac Nattapat Nimjirawat plays Rin, and Tham Thapthong Suwanrakanont plays Khobfah. Aun Napat Patcharachavalit plays Grit and Stamp Panachkorn Rueksiriaree plays Moji. Paul Tanan Lohawatanakul, Juno Tiranat Kittisattho, Pream Nutnicha Sangmanee and Namassakarn Trangkhasombat complete the main cast. The series has ten episodes and is adapted from the novel Chut Chop Sai Mu by LuaAimei.

A curse that lands on the wrong person

The drama starts from a small, human mistake. Rin is hurt, drunk and holding an object that belonged to his ex, so he turns an inherited skill into an act of revenge. The pen he uses is not what he thinks it is, and that single error moves the story from a breakup into a situation where he owes something to a stranger. Because the fault is his own, the romance never has to depend on an outside obstacle. Rin stays near Khobfah out of responsibility first, and the closeness that follows is the natural result.

Two leads who know different things

Khobfah experiences the misfortune and has no idea where it comes from, while Rin knows exactly what he did and cannot easily say so. That imbalance of knowledge is the engine of both the comedy and the tenderness. Each scene of Rin protecting him carries a second meaning for the audience, and the question of how Khobfah will react to the truth stays open for the length of the season.

A title built on two ideas

The Thai title joins the word for people devoted to luck rituals and spiritual practice with a word for courting, which describes the show in a few syllables: a romance that grows out of a ritual. The English title keeps the luck theme and adds the slang word bae, so the two versions point at the same idea from different sides.

A paired release night

Each Thursday the episode airs on GMM25 at 8:30 PM, and Netflix adds it worldwide at 9:30 PM Thai time the same evening. That one hour gap lets viewers outside Thailand follow the story almost in step with the broadcast audience, which suits a series whose jokes depend on what has just happened. The production history is steady as well: GMMTV announced the series in November 2025, released a pilot trailer on 25 November 2025 and held a script reading on 1 March 2026 before the first episode on 6 August 2026.

The team behind it

Apirak Chaipanha and Anan Rasamee direct, Apirak Chaipanha and Aekawitch Longcharoen share the screenplay credit, and Sataporn Panichraksapong is executive producer. Mac Nattapat Nimjirawat and Tham Thapthong Suwanrakanont carry the two central roles in a main cast of eight.

Themes

The series treats luck as something that can be lent, lost and repaid. Rin has plenty of it, Khobfah suddenly has none, and the plot asks whether one person's good fortune can balance the other's misfortune. That gives the story a simple moral shape: a careless act of anger creates a debt, and the repayment is care.

The fantasy element also works as a comment on inheritance. Rin comes from a family of sorcerers and has spent time trying to avoid it, yet the one moment he uses what he inherited is the moment it goes wrong. Learning to live with that background, and with the person it hurt, runs under the comedy of the university setting.
