Original music for a production is written by the composer, who supplies the underscore running beneath scenes and, in many cases, the themes that recur whenever a particular relationship is on screen. In romance driven work this is load bearing: much of what an audience reads as feeling in a quiet scene is carried by the score rather than by dialogue.
Soundtracks in BL and GL tend to combine two things that are credited separately.
