Charlie Dizon
BIOGRAPHY
Charlie Dizon, born April Rose Dizon Matienzo on 12 April 1996, is a Filipino actress who has worked in film and television since 2017. She has been with the ABS-CBN talent agency Star Magic since 2018, and from 2020 to 2023 she was also managed by Rise Artists Studio.
Her first screen credits arrived together in 2017, with the films Finally Found Someone, where she played Trina, Seven Sundays, as Camille, and Loving in Tandem. Those early parts were credited under her real name. In 2018 she played Cielo in Sin Island, and that March she was one of thirteen newcomers presented as the 2018 Star Magic Circle. Her television debut followed in Bagani, as Marikit and Halina, a part that brought a PMPC Star Awards for Television nomination for Best New Female TV Personality.
The next two years filled out her record with Pandanggo sa Hukay, Touch Screen, the fantasy drama Parasite Island as Princess Salvacion and the series A Soldier’s Heart as Isabel Gezali. In 2020 she also played Teddie Salazar in Four Sisters Before the Wedding, and she took the title role of Jane in Fan Girl, an entry in the 2020 Metro Manila Film Festival that marked her breakthrough.
Television work then grew around her. She played Ciara in My Sunset Girl in 2021 and starred in Viral Scandal from 2021 into 2022 as Rica “Ikay” Meneses Sicat. In 2023 she starred as Britney in the romance film Third World Romance, and she went on to Pira-Pirasong Paraiso as Diana, the Philippine series It’s Okay to Not Be Okay as Jana and What Lies Beneath as Elizabeth “Beth” Sevilla Mora. Her recent films include Moneyslapper, Near Death as Julia and Rekonek as Kate.
2026 pairs her twice with Janine Gutierrez. In The Loyalty Game she plays Regina “Ging Ging” Santos, and in the Netflix Philippines series Balaraw she plays Bulak Bernabe, the girlfriend of Sabina Tejeros, who goes with her to a mysterious island in search of Sabina’s missing mother. Rae Red directs the series, Agot Isidro plays the mother, Rebecca, and the worldwide launch is set for 29 October 2026. Speaking to MEGA magazine, Dizon described Bulak as her first queer character.
Here is my soft spot confession: I love an actress who can play a fangirl who learns the hard way about meeting her idol, then a grocery employee looking for love on a tight budget, and make both feel lived in. That is Charlie’s whole thing. She has two Best Actress wins from The EDDYS, a Gawad Urian, and a Metro Manila Film Festival prize, so you are in good hands. Watch her for the small reactions; she plays the person in the room who notices everything.
My pick for a first watch is Fan Girl. It is the film that made her name and it shows you her range in one sitting. After that, Third World Romance makes a lovely chaser, and then you are ready for Bulak on Balaraw, which is her first queer role and the one I am most excited to see.
