What happens

Yin Qi (Tang Bide), Fifth Prince of Xing, has spent three years on the frontier, far enough from the capital to be forgotten and useful enough to stay alive. A secret letter calls him home, and he goes, with Pei Yanzhi (Wang Jinghan), the companion who has stood at his shoulder for as long as either of them can remember, riding beside him. The summons is bait. What waits for the two men in the palace is a trap laid with patience, and it costs Yin Qi everything: dying with his blood on the stones, he finally understands what the man next to him has always meant to him, far too late to say it. Then he opens his eyes three years earlier, whole, in a body that has not yet failed anyone, carrying the memory of a future nobody else has lived.

The second life is a race. Yin Qi knows the shape of the conspiracy now, and he knows who built it: his elder half-brother Yin Zhou (Duan Tongzhou), the First Prince, whose patience is his sharpest weapon. Rewriting the outcome means keeping Pei Yanzhi off the path that killed him without explaining why, dismantling Yin Zhou's plans before they are laid, and untangling the loyalties of Wei Ziming (Li Youcheng), whose own storyline runs alongside the central romance and refuses to resolve into a simple allegiance. Court and family close in from every side, Yin Heshu (Wang Yuezhi) among the princes, the strategist Lin Xianyue (Zhao Jiayi) reading the board, the loyal aide Su He (Du Yiheng) holding the line, and each secret Yin Qi pulls loose turns out to be tied to the man he most wants to protect.

Journey With You (与君同) is a Chinese historical-fantasy BL directed by Reese for The One Studio: eight episodes running roughly forty-four to fifty-eight minutes, released weekly on Fridays on GagaOOLala from 8 May 2026 to its 19 June finale, with English subtitles internationally. No source novel has been announced, and the story is set in an invented Xing Dynasty. It turns on duty, regret, sacrifice and the question of whether a fate can actually be rewritten.

Journey With You builds a rebirth plot inside a palace-intrigue setting. A prince dies in a betrayal, wakes three years earlier, and spends eight episodes racing to save the man he failed to protect the first time.

The Leads

Tang Bide plays Yin Qi, a man carrying memories no one else has, while Wang Jinghan's Pei Yanzhi is the loyal companion at the centre of the mystery. Their duty-versus-devotion dynamic is the show's emotional core, with Duan Tongzhou as the antagonist Yin Zhou.

The parallel storyline built around Li Youcheng's Wei Ziming gives the eight-episode run a second emotional thread alongside the central rebirth arc.

What to Expect

  • Plot-forward: conspiracies, assassination attempts and rebirth twists keep the eight episodes moving.
  • Historical setting: court politics and period costume around the romance.
  • Emotional weight: a love framed around regret, sacrifice and rewriting a tragic fate.

The Verdict

For viewers of historical Chinese BL and rebirth storylines, Journey With You is an eight-episode story that puts its second-chance romance front and centre.

Final Score: 7/10

Eight episodes over six weeks, on a single platform.

The run opened on 8 May 2026 and closed on 19 June, a 42 day window. Episodes one and two went out on the first day, and single Friday releases followed. GagaOOLala is the only outlet.

Weekly release suits a rebirth plot. The prince wakes three years before a betrayal he already remembers, and each episode leaves seven days between one correction to the timeline and the next.

At 49 minutes an episode the full run comes to 6.5 hours, a compact frame for a plot that covers two passes through the same three years. The One Studio produced it, and no source novel has been announced.

A palace, a king with sons, a crown prince building traps, and a prince who had no intention of going anywhere near any of it having to step in.

The structure is the interesting part. The future is shown first, his own death included, and then he is sent back, which means he returns already distrusting the childhood friend standing beside him. Whether that friend is on his side is the question the series keeps open, and the answer is not the one his memory handed him. Court politics take over from there. Eight episodes at forty nine minutes. The register is heavier and more measured than most romances, closer to a court drama with a love story inside it than the other way round, which suits viewers who like to settle into political intrigue. Read it that way and it works.

Themes

The Chinese title puts the problem in its pronoun. 与君同 uses 君 for "you", a formal and deferential address, the word for a lord or a superior rather than an equal. A prince and the companion who stands at his shoulder are not two men of the same rank, and a phrase promising to go together does so in language that keeps one of them a step below the other. The English title smooths that away. The original leaves the gap visible inside the word.

The rebirth does something comparable with silence. Yin Qi dies without saying what he felt, then wakes carrying a second thing he also cannot say, since explaining what he knows would put the man he came back for on the road that killed him. The content of the unspoken thing changes; its status does not. One life ends in a confession he ran out of time to make, and the next opens on one he is not free to make.

That is a demanding shape for a romance. The hero's single great advantage and his loneliness are the same possession.
