Uranus2324
SYNOPSIS
Lin (Sarocha Chankimha) and Kath (Rebecca Patricia Armstrong) grow up bound together on Thailand's coast, forming a childhood connection that shapes both of their lives long before either of them understands what it means. A sudden tragedy tears the two apart, scattering their paths in different directions and leaving behind an unresolved bond that neither can fully explain to the people around them. Years later, the two women have built entirely different lives, defined by opposite relationships to distance: Lin trains as an astronaut reaching toward the edge of the solar system, while Kath becomes a free diver descending into the pressure of the open ocean, each of them chasing extremes that echo just how far apart their circumstances once pushed them.
When fate places Lin and Kath back within reach of each other, Uranus 2324 follows their attempt to close a gap that is as much emotional as it is physical, spanning the vacuum of space and the depths of the sea. A close friend, Prim (Torfan Taweema), and the families on either side surround the two leads with the history and the old wounds that first drove them apart: Kath's mother (Siriam Pakdeedumrongrit) and Kath's father (Amarin Nitipon), and Lin's father (Ninnart Sinchai). On the other side of the story, the NASA administrator (Erich Fleshman) and Thomas Weston (Christophe Gerber), a fellow astronaut, anchor the space programme storyline that carries Lin toward the mission at the heart of the film. As the astronaut and the free diver edge closer to a reunion that once seemed impossible, past and present are folded together, tracing exactly how tragedy separated them and what it will take, across years and physical extremes, to find their way back to one another.
Directed by Thanadol Nuansut for VelCurve Studio, and written directly for the screen by Thitipong Chaisati and Nut Nualpang with Nuansut himself rather than adapted from a novel, Uranus 2324 pairs Sarocha Chankimha and Rebecca Patricia Armstrong, the on-screen duo known to audiences as FreenBecky since their 2022 breakout in GAP The Series, in a big-screen science-fiction romance built entirely around the emotional distance its two characters must close. It premiered in Thai cinemas on 4 July 2024 at roughly 148 minutes, pushing Thai girls' love storytelling out of its usual television format and into a theatrical release, and later reached international audiences through Netflix and Prime Video. The tagline, that love is bigger than the universe and deeper than the ocean, doubles as a description of the film's structure, which keeps one half of its story in orbit and the other underwater and never lets the science-fiction machinery overtake the simpler question of whether Lin and Kath can end up in the same place again.
