About this archive
Prime Video is Amazon’s streaming service. It began in the United States in September 2006 as Amazon Unbox and now operates in more than 200 countries and territories, with mainland China, Russia, Belarus, Iran, Syria, Cuba, North Korea, Sudan, Vietnam and Crimea outside its reach.
How it is sold varies by country. In some markets it comes as part of an Amazon Prime membership, in others it can be taken on its own, and since January 2024 the standard plan has carried advertising with an option to remove it for an additional monthly fee. Alongside the included library, Prime Video rents and sells individual films and episodes, and it hosts Prime Video Channels, which are add on subscriptions to other services bought and watched inside the same app.
For BL and GL viewers the service supports 33 languages with localised subtitles, so English subtitles are generally present on a licensed Asian title. Whether a particular series is included with a subscription, rented, or reached through a channel subscription depends on the country, and the same title can sit in different places in different Amazon storefronts, so it is worth checking the local storefront before assuming where a show lives.
