Thanadol Nuansut
BIOGRAPHY
Thanadol Nuansut (Thai: ธนดล นวลสุทธิ์), credited in some releases as James Thanadol Nuansut and occasionally romanised as Thanadon Nuansutthi, is a Thai film director, screenwriter and producer who has worked in the commercial Thai film industry since 2004. He directed and wrote Uranus2324 (2024) and also originated its story, a science-fiction romance with a central relationship between two women.
He began on set rather than in the writers’ room, working as an assistant and first assistant director through more than a decade of Thai studio production: The Sisters (2004, where he also appears on screen as Lt. Jakrit), Sassy Player (2009), Oh My Ghost 2 (2011) and Oh My Ghost 3 (2012), Spicy Robbery (2012), the Make Me Shudder films (2013 and 2014), Dangerous Boys (2014), Fast 888 (2016), Zombie Fighters (2017), The Last Heroes (2018) and Pojaman The Legacy (2020).
He started directing his own features in parallel. The Intruder (2010) was his first credit as director and screenwriter. The Unborn Child (2011) followed, on which he took all three roles of director, screenwriter and first assistant director at once, then Love at First Flood (2012), Still 2 (2014, again directing and writing) and Latitude 6 (2015).
From 2021 onward his work shifts toward producing and long-form television. He produced Haunted Tales (2021), Love Battle vs Bullfighting (2022), E-Sarn Zombie (2023), Magic Love (2023), Postman (2023) and The Djinn’s Curse (2023). In 2022 he created, wrote and directed all fourteen episodes of Finding the Rainbow, a period romance series that runs its love story across the 1992 Black May events, 11 September 2001 and the 2021 pandemic. The same year he directed an episode of School Tales the Series.
Thanadol Nuansut was still taking assistant director work in 2020, a decade after his first credit as director.
His first directing credit, The Intruder, dates from 2010, and Pojaman The Legacy in 2020 carries him as assistant director. He also returned for more than one film in both the Oh My Ghost and Make Me Shudder series.
In my view the defining fact here is a long apprenticeship. He worked on other directors’ crews for years and kept directing his own features beside that work, which gave him a close knowledge of Thai studio production before he led a series of his own.
What stayed with me is Finding the Rainbow. A love story carried across 1992, 2001 and 2021 asks one team to keep three eras consistent over fourteen episodes, and he took the creator, writer and director credits to do it. It is the work I would watch first to see what he does with romance at length.
Uranus2324 is the natural second choice. I would watch the two back to back, because they show a director who came up through horror and horror comedy crews moving into love stories.
His training was in film. He studied Film and Video in the Faculty of Communication Arts at Rangsit University. The producer list also includes 3 AM Part 3 in 2018, and in 2023 he served as executive producer of Tid Noi: More Than True Love. In 2025 he produced Love Design, and its uncut version and special episode carry the same credit. On the crew side his assistant director work also covers Meat Grinder and The Fatality in 2009, Iron Ladies Roar! in 2014 and Boxing Sangkran in 2019. In 2026 he is credited as director of Uranus2325 Special Version, and in 2024 he appeared as a guest on The Story 2024 to represent Uranus2324. In my view a director who studied the craft formally, learned it on sets and then moved into producing has sat in nearly every chair a film crew offers.
