Wang Yibo

Wang Yibo (Chinese: 王一博, born 5 August 1997) is a Chinese actor, singer, dancer, television host and professional motorcycle racer from Luoyang in Henan. To most of the audience for this site he is Lan Wangji, and that role alone would earn him a page, but it is a small part of what he does.

He was born Wang Jie. The name was changed to Wang Yibo because it clashed with an elder relative’s, and his family still uses the original as a pet name. Dance came first. At eleven he saw a street dance competition on television, talked his mother into letting him learn, and found he had a physical gift for it. At thirteen, still in junior high, he entered the national IBD street dance competition and reached the last sixteen in the hip hop category. Yuehua Entertainment spotted him there, signed him as a trainee and sent him to South Korea, where he trained for four years.

He debuted in 2014 as a member of the five-piece group UNIQ, working in both China and Korea as main dancer and lead rapper. From 2016 he was one of the hosts of Hunan Television’s variety show Day Day Up, and he has served as a dance mentor on Produce 101, CHUANG and Street Dance of China.

2019 was the year everything changed twice over. He played Lan Wangji in The Untamed, which turned him into an international name, and won the Audience’s Favourite Actor prize at the 30th China TV Golden Eagle Awards for Gank Your Heart, becoming the youngest winner of that award. The same year he signed as a rider with the MLT Yamaha racing team and took the Group D rookie title at the Zhuhai ZIC motorcycle race, along with second place in the mixed group. He ranked ninth and then second on the Forbes China Celebrity List in 2020 and 2021.

His screen work since has moved decisively towards film. He played Xie Yun in Legend of Fei (2020), Baili Hongyi in Luoyang (2021), Chen Yu in Being a Hero (2022) and Li Mo in All Tomorrow’s Parties (2022). In 2023 he appeared in Hidden Blade, Born to Fly and One and Only, work that brought him Most Media-Followed Actor at the 20th China Movie Channel Media Awards and a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the 36th Golden Rooster Awards. One and Only then brought a Best Actor nomination at the 37th Golden Rooster Awards in 2024 and an Outstanding Actor nomination at the 20th Huabiao Awards in 2025. He has also appeared in Formed Police Unit and War of Faith (2024).
