SYNOPSIS

Four Hands, Two Sonatas (포핸즈) is a South Korean tvN drama about two young pianists from completely different worlds who meet at an elite arts high school and find their lives tangled together through the music.

Kang Bi-oh (Song Kang) is the prodigy, already discussed as a contender for the biggest international competitions. Choi Jeong-yo (Lee Jun-young) comes from a hard family background and had let his own talent go; arriving at the school, he runs into the pianist he was once completely taken with. Hong Jae-in (Jang Gyu-ri), a viola major with a sharp ear, is looking for music that actually reaches her.

BLGLFLIX records this as a bromance, not a BL. TMDB tags the series with bromance and does not tag it with boys' love. Neither tvN nor Studio Dragon has presented it as a BL production, and English Wikipedia does not describe it as BL or queer. The relationship between the two male leads is intense and central, and the marketing leans on that, but the series also has a female lead in the main cast. We record what the sources actually say and will revise this page if the broadcast changes the picture.

The series runs twelve episodes from 29 August to 4 October 2026, two per weekend, directed by Park Hyeon-seok and written by Shin Yi-won, who TMDB also credits as its creator.

MAIN CAST & CHARACTERS

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Bromance, not BL: TMDB tags the series bromance and does not tag it boys’ love. No official source calls it BL. BLGLFLIX files it alongside The Untamed and Mr.Kill.
  • Twelve episodes: two per weekend on tvN, running 29 August to 4 October 2026.
  • Song Kang returns: known for Love Alarm, Sweet Home and My Demon, he plays the piano prodigy Kang Bi-oh.
  • Lee Jun-young: the U-KISS and UNB member turned actor plays Choi Jeong-yo, the lead who had set his talent aside.
  • Creator-written: Shin Yi-won is credited by TMDB as the creator, not just a staff writer, so the premise originates with her.
  • Studio Dragon: produced by the studio behind much of tvN’s drama output, with streaming on TVING.
  • Rated 15: the Korean broadcast certification is 15, recorded here as 15+.
  • Music-school setting: an elite arts high school, with piano performance and orchestra material rather than the usual campus-romance backdrop.
  • Female lead in the main cast: Jang Gyu-ri, formerly of fromis_9, plays viola major Hong Jae-in, one reason the BL label does not fit.
  • Where to watch: tvN in Korea and TVING for streaming. No direct series page had been published when this entry was written, so no link is recorded yet.

EDITOR’S VERDICT

This is a preview, not a review, and a classification note. Four Hands, Two Sonatas had not premiered when this page was written. No episodes have been watched and no score is recorded.

Why this page exists on a BL/GL site

Because readers will look for it here. Song Kang and Lee Jun-young in a two-hander about rivalry, obsession and a shared piano is exactly the shape that draws BL audiences, and TMDB's own keyword set puts bromance next to romance and childhood friends. Recording it and labelling it honestly is more useful than pretending it does not exist or filing it as something it is not.

What it is not

It is not a BL. No BL keyword on TMDB, no BL framing from tvN or Studio Dragon, no queer description on Wikipedia, and a female lead in the main cast. Anyone arriving expecting a canonical romance between the two men should read this section first.

What is worth watching for

The one line in the official character description that keeps the question open is that Choi Jeong-yo runs into the prodigy he was once completely taken with. Whether that reads as rivalry, admiration or something the series is willing to name is the thing to watch from episode one.

Where it sits

Filed as bromance, next to The Untamed and Mr.Kill. This page will be updated once the season has aired and the relationship is actually on screen rather than in a logline.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Four Hands, Two Sonatas a BL series?

No. BLGLFLIX records it as a bromance. TMDB tags the series with bromance and does not carry the boys' love keyword. Neither tvN nor Studio Dragon has presented it as BL, English Wikipedia does not describe it as BL or queer, and the main cast includes a female lead. If the broadcast changes that picture, this page will be revised.

Why is a non-BL series listed on a BL/GL site?

Because BL audiences are looking for it, and an honest label is more useful than no entry. BLGLFLIX keeps a Bromance category for exactly this, alongside The Untamed and Mr.Kill.

What is Four Hands, Two Sonatas about?

Two young pianists from very different backgrounds meet at an elite arts high school, and their lives become entangled through the music. One is a prodigy tipped for international competitions; the other had let his own talent go before arriving.

Who stars in it?

Song Kang as Kang Bi-oh and Lee Jun-young as Choi Jeong-yo lead. Jang Gyu-ri plays viola major Hong Jae-in, with Kim Ju-hun as Do Hyeon-su, Yoon Se-a as Kang Ji-hye and Lee Sang-jun as Han Rim.

When does it premiere?

29 August 2026 on tvN.

Where can I watch it?

tvN broadcasts it in South Korea, with streaming on TVING. No direct series page had been published when this entry was written, so no link is recorded here yet.

Park Hyeon-seok directs all twelve episodes. Shin Yi-won wrote them and is credited by TMDB as the series creator.

Is it based on a novel or webtoon?

No source work has been named. TMDB's creator credit for Shin Yi-won indicates an original screenplay.

What is the age rating?

The Korean broadcast certification recorded on TMDB is 15. BLGLFLIX records this as 15+.

What does the Korean title mean?

The Korean title is 포핸즈, a transliteration of "four hands", the term for a piano piece played by two people at one keyboard. That is a description of the format rather than an official English gloss from the broadcaster.

How long is each episode?

No official runtime has been published. TMDB lists the episode entries without runtime values, so this page leaves the field blank rather than estimating one.
