Bae Yoon-seo
BIOGRAPHY
Bae Yoon-seo (Korean: 배윤서) is a South Korean director, screenwriter, editor and producer working almost entirely in Korean boys’ love. Five productions are on record, and on most of them she holds more than one job.
Her main body of work is with STRONGBERRY and Matchbox. She directed and wrote all twelve episodes of Sweetheart Service (스윗하트서비스), released on YouTube from 8 May 2025, in which a fake dating contract between a job seeker and a developer who has had enough of marriage starts turning into the real thing. She then directed, wrote and edited the feature version, Sweetheart Service: The Movie, released on 9 November 2025. In October 2025 she took an executive producer credit on Kiss Kiss Sxx (키스키스X스), a twenty-eight part omnibus for Shortime built from eight separate short love stories.
In 2026 she moved to a larger production. She directs all ten episodes of Summertime (하절기) for wavve, produced by OAK Company with KT Studio Genie and SAMBOK Production, from a screenplay by Jo Yong and a web novel by I Ro-mil. Yeo Eun-ho and Cha Do-hyun have been friends for nineteen years, and Eun-ho believes he can read his friend completely, including the fact that Do-hyun’s flawless reputation at school is a performance. What he has never noticed is that Do-hyun has been in love with him the whole time. Kim Do-min plays Eun-ho and Seong In-ho plays Do-hyun. A further series, 그늘 아래 피는, is in production with STRONGBERRY and Matchbox.

Our page called her “a South Korean director with five credits”. That undersells it considerably. Across those five productions she is credited as director, screenwriter, editor and executive producer. On the Sweetheart Service film she holds three of those jobs at once. That is not a director-for-hire; that is someone making the thing more or less end to end, which in Korean short-form BL is closer to the norm than most coverage of the genre admits.
The 2026 move is the story on this page. Everything before Summertime was STRONGBERRY and Matchbox, distributed on YouTube and Shortime, at short-form scale. Summertime is ten episodes for wavve, with KT Studio Genie among the producers, which is a telecom-backed studio operation rather than a boutique. Same director, materially different budget bracket. If you want a single example of Korean BL moving from the self-published end of the market into the platform economy, this filmography is it.
It is also the point we made on the profile for Jo Yong, this series’ screenwriter, and should keep making: Korea does have an openly labelled BL pipeline, and it runs through wavve. We spent several profiles on this site describing Korean queer material as something that hides inside network dramas under keywords like bromance. That is true of the terrestrial and cable networks. It is not true of the streamers, and the people staffing the streamers’ BL slate, like this director, come up through the small studios rather than out of nowhere.
One production worth flagging on its own. Kiss Kiss Sxx is an omnibus of eight separate short stories running to twenty-eight parts, and it carries both the boys’ love and the girls’ love keyword. Anthologies that cover both are rare enough that we would treat it as its own entry rather than a footnote here, and it is not yet in this database.
Neither, for that matter, are Sweetheart Service, its feature version, or the series currently in production. Four titles by this director are missing from a site that catalogues exactly this. We have logged them all.
