About this archive
GagaOOLala is a streaming service devoted entirely to LGBTQ+ film and television, run by the Taipei based production and distribution company Portico Media and founded by Jay Lin. It opened in Taiwan in November 2016, widened to ten Southeast Asian markets during 2017, added Hong Kong and Macau in 2018, and since May 2020 has been available worldwide apart from mainland China and North Korea.
For a BL or GL viewer, this is one of the few places where queer titles are the whole library rather than a category inside a larger service. The library runs past a thousand titles and mixes Asian queer cinema, shorts, documentaries and series with international acquisitions, and the platform is offered in English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and Thai, so English speaking viewers outside Asia can follow titles that never receive a Western broadcast licence.
GagaOOLala also commissions its own work, including the documentary series Queer Taiwan and Queer Asia, the feature Tale of the Lost Boys, and the yaoi adaptation At 25:00, in Akasaka, co-produced with TV Tokyo in 2024. That means the service is often the original home of a title rather than a later licensee, particularly for Taiwanese and Southeast Asian queer productions.
