About this archive
Tokyo MX is the on air name of Tokyo Metropolitan Television Broadcasting Corporation, a free to air independent television station that began broadcasting on 1 November 1995. It belongs to no national network and is instead a member of the Japanese Association of Independent Television Stations. Its shareholders include Tokyo FM, the entertainment company Bushiroad, the Chunichi Shimbun and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
The station broadcasts to Tokyo and parts of the neighbouring Kanto prefectures, on digital channel 9 under the call sign JOMX-DTV. It is best known for the volume of late night programming it carries, particularly anime, which it expanded heavily from 2006, and it is a regular first broadcaster for series that later travel abroad.
For a BL or GL viewer, the practical point is that a Tokyo MX airing is a terrestrial broadcast within the Kanto region rather than a stream. The station closed its own simulcast service, M-Cast, at the end of June 2024 and said it would instead work through platforms with larger audiences such as TVer and YouTube. Titles that air here normally reach international viewers through a separate licensed streaming release, which this site lists on the individual title page.
