Mark Anthony Oblea
BIOGRAPHY
Mark Anthony Oblea is a Filipino actor who came to television as a singer, not an actor, and reached Boys’ Love later on.
He appeared first on the Eat Bulaga! singing segment Spogify feat. Singing Baes, alongside Allen Cecilio, and was eliminated in the daily round. In September 2016 he joined Pinoy Boyband Superstar, ABS-CBN’s adaptation of the Latin American format La Banda, which set out to assemble a new Filipino boy band from scratch. Billy Crawford hosted, and the panel of judges was made up of Aga Muhlach, Yeng Constantino, Sandara Park and Vice Ganda. The season ran from 10 September to 11 December 2016 on the network, and he appears in sixteen of its episodes. The five places went to Niel Murillo, Russell Reyes, Ford Valencia, Tristan Ramirez and Joao Constancia, who became BoybandPH.
Acting followed. He appeared in the 2018 Philippine film Tres, a 118-minute triptych about three people going to desperate lengths to keep their secrets, and in G! in 2019. In 2025 he played Emman Dalisay in the Philippine adaptation of It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, which ran on weekday evenings on Kapamilya Channel between 21 July and 17 October and is the largest of his credits by episode count. The series stars Anne Curtis as Mia, a woman with an antisocial personality disorder, Joshua Garcia as Patpat, a psychiatric ward caretaker, and Carlo Aquino as Matmat, the autistic older brother Patpat has devoted his life to looking after. Mae Cruz-Alviar and Raymund B. Ocampo directed it for Star Creatives, working with the studio behind the 2020 Korean original.
In 2026 he plays Sharky across all ten episodes of The Boyfriend Express, the Oxin Films Boys’ Love series released on YouTube between 2 May and 4 July, in which a rigid executive hires a professional stand-in boyfriend to teach him how to be a boyfriend. The executive is Harry Montenegro, dumped for being too stiff, and the professional he hires is Brix, played by Aki Torres. Xion Lim directed. Sharky sits in the regular ensemble beside Thea Abanico as Jazmine, Angge Gegante as Bree and Art Guma as Leo, and all four appear in the full run, as he does.
From Boy Band Hopeful to BL Ensemble
Mark Anthony Oblea took the scenic route to BL. He started out singing on television, first in the Eat Bulaga! segment Spogify feat. Singing Baes, then across sixteen episodes of ABS-CBN’s 2016 Pinoy Boyband Superstar, the hunt for a brand-new Filipino boy band. He did not make the final five, but look where he ended up.
A Fun Bit of Trivia
He is not the only one from that season to land in Philippine BL. Kokoy de Santos, who went on to play Gavreel Alarcon in Gameboys, Gameboys: The Movie and Gameboys 2, was on it too. Neither joined BoybandPH, and both found their way to boys’ love. I love that kind of connection.
Meet Sharky
His BL role is Sharky in The Boyfriend Express, the 2026 Oxin Films series on YouTube where a rigid executive, Harry Montenegro, hires the professional stand-in boyfriend Brix to learn how to be a boyfriend. Andrei de Guzman and Aki Torres lead, and Sharky sits in the regular gang with Jazmine, Bree and Leo, present in all ten episodes. A light, contract-romance comedy, perfect for a weekend.
For the Bigger Picture
Want to see his dramatic side first? Try the Philippine It’s Okay to Not Be Okay from 2025, where he plays Emman Dalisay in a long weekday run on Kapamilya Channel alongside Anne Curtis, Joshua Garcia and Carlo Aquino. Then switch moods with Sharky. On film, hunt down Tres from 2018 and G! from 2019.
