About this archive
Playing and recording is the common thread here, in cases where the more specific credits do not fit. It covers instrumentalists, band members, session players and performers whose work is live rather than acted, and it is used where a musical contribution is real but is not adequately described as singing, composing or producing.
In BL and GL this work turns up in several places. Bands record theme songs and appear in the promotional material around a release. Session musicians play on the score and on soundtrack singles. Performers who are musicians first sometimes take screen roles built around that ability, and cast concerts, now a standard way of extending a successful series commercially, need people who can actually play.
For a reader following a career, the credit usually signals that a person’s centre of gravity is music rather than screen work, even when a drama appearance is what brought them to a wider audience. It is best read alongside the singer, composer, songwriter and music producer credits on this site, since those roles overlap heavily and many of the people listed here carry two or three of them at once.
