BIOGRAPHY

Aof Noppharnach Chaiyahwimhon (Thai: อ๊อฟ นพณัช ชัยวิมล), born October 27, 1980, is a Thai director, screenwriter, and Senior Director of Content Production at GMMTV. His GMMTV directing credits begin with Dark Blue Kiss and He’s Coming To Me in 2019.

Aof developed an early interest in directing during his high school years through school theater productions and a passion for literature and film. He pursued formal studies in Communication Arts (นิเทศศาสตร์) at university, laying the foundation for his future career in screenwriting and direction.

Aof entered the Thai entertainment industry through independent online series exploring LGBTQ+ themes, most notably as the creator of Gay OK Bangkok (2016) and Gay OK Bangkok 2. He subsequently joined GMMTV, beginning in junior production roles before transitioning to assistant directing and screenwriting positions. His earliest GMMTV screenwriting credits include the My Dear Loser series (2017) and several Ugly Duckling Series episodes.

Aof’s directorial breakthrough came with Dark Blue Kiss (2019) and He’s Coming To Me (2019), followed by Still 2gether (2020), A Tale of Thousand Stars (2021), 2gether: The Movie (2021), and Bad Buddy (2021). His directorial portfolio continued with The Eclipse (2022), My School President (2022), Cupid’s Last Wish, Moonlight Chicken (2023), and Last Twilight (2023). He is also executive producer on titles including P.S. I Hate You and Mama Gogo.

He shares behind-the-scenes content from his GMMTV productions and personal projects on Instagram under the handle @backaof.

If a GMMTV series has ever wrecked you in the best way, there is a decent chance Aof was behind the camera. Bad Buddy, The Eclipse, Moonlight Chicken, Last Twilight, The Heart Killers: that is one stacked directing list, and he writes on many of his own shows too.

Watch his work for the pairings he puts on screen. Nanon and Ohm in Bad Buddy, First and Khaotung in The Eclipse, Earth and Mix in Moonlight Chicken, Jimmy and Sea in Last Twilight. He keeps coming back to LGBTQ+ identity, family rivalries and relationships across generations, so his shows tend to have big feelings with real stakes. New to him? I say start with Bad Buddy, then jump to Moonlight Chicken to see a completely different mood from the same director.

Bonus game for rewatchers: spot Aof himself. He pops up in cameos inside his own series, as a pharmacist in Bad Buddy and a waiter in Moonlight Chicken, among others. And here is a fun origin story: Ticket to Heaven started as his own original screenplay, which he also directed, and the tie-in novel came out later, so the book follows the show, not the other way round. Gemmistry Studio shares the production credit with GMMTV.
