BIOGRAPHY
Jojo Tichakorn Phukhaotong (Thai: โจโจ้ ทิชากร ภูเขาทอง), born December 26, 1984 in Surat Thani, is a Thai television director, screenwriter, and the founder of the party-planning service Trasher Bangkok. He has directed a long run of GMMTV Boys’ Love series.
Jojo graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from the Faculty of Archaeology at Silpakorn University. He had no formal background in film-making but had always wanted to become a director. He began his career making Bangkok-set parody videos of pop songs, many of them starring actor Jennie Panhan.
Jojo felt that gay characters in Thai media were typically represented either as sassy, tragic figures or as cute young couples. With the hope of expanding their representation, he developed his directorial debut series. He made his directorial debut in 2016 with the first season of Gay OK Bangkok, which he also wrote.
Jojo’s directorial credits include Gay OK Bangkok (2016), Friend Zone (2018), Friend Zone 2: Dangerous Area (2020), and The Heart Killers (2024-2025), the dual-couple crime comedy uniting the FirstKhao and JoongDunk pairs. He is also known for the productions Mama Gogo and The Player. In 2021, after departing from Trasher Bangkok, he launched a new production company, Hard Feeling Film, named after the Lorde song.
His path to the director’s chair ran through smaller jobs. In 2013 he worked as an assistant director on Love Balloon, and in 2014 he wrote the film Secret Love: Love Behind One’s Back. After the first Gay OK Bangkok came a second season in 2017, and he directed and wrote both 3 Will Be Free and Nobody Happy in 2019. The Player followed in 2021 alongside Love Pharmacy, which he directed, and in 2022 he directed and wrote Mama Gogo and The Warp Effect.
From 2023 to 2026 the credits come thick and fast. In 2023 he directed and wrote Dirty Laundry, Our Skyy 2, its companion edition Our Skyy 2: Never Let Me Go and Only Friends. He directed Mu-Girl Miracle Matchmaking and directed and wrote That Summer in 2025. In 2026 he directed and wrote A Dog and a Plane and Girl Rules, and directed Police in Love. I Will Always Save You is an upcoming project as director, and he is credited as producer on Love’s Echoes.
No Film School, No Problem
Jojo’s résumé is the best kind of chaotic. A degree in English, earned inside an archaeology faculty. Pop-song parody videos around Bangkok. A party-planning service. Then, in 2016, an independent series called Gay OK Bangkok that he wrote himself, made because he wanted gay characters on Thai screens to be more than the sassy, tragic types or the cute young couples he kept seeing. That is a mission statement, and he has been busy with it ever since.
The Writer in the Director’s Chair
Here is the thing to watch for: Jojo very often writes what he directs. Only Friends, Dirty Laundry, Our Skyy 2, Mama Gogo, That Summer, A Dog and a Plane. When the same person holds the script and the camera, you get one voice from page to screen, and his shows carry that signature.

Fond of pairings? The Heart Killers, his 2024 GMMTV crime comedy, puts FirstKhao and JoongDunk in the same show, produced by Aof Noppharnach Chaiyahwimhon. Four leads, two romances, one very full screen. If you love either pair, this is the one Jojo credit you cannot skip.
