What happens

Love Class 2 (수업중입니다 2; RR: Sueop Jung-imnida 2) is the second season of the Korean boys' love campus series, and it starts over rather than picking up where the first left off: new faces, new campus, three freshman romances running side by side. Lee Hyun (Jeon Min-wook), an outgoing first-year, walks into a lecture hall and finds himself face to face with Kim An (Kim Yong-seok), the cold, unreadable former tutor who once vanished from his life without a word of explanation. Lee Hyun wants an answer. Kim An would very much prefer that he stop asking. In the same orbit, Ma Ru (Lee Gwang-hee) has no idea that his easygoing friend Min Woo (Woo Hyo-won) has been quietly in love with him for far longer than either of them would ever say out loud.

The third thread belongs to Ju Hyuk (Ahn Jeong-gyun), a returning student easing back into university life, who has a brief and uncomplicated fling with a man he assumes he will never run into again, until Sung Min (Jung Woo-jae) turns up at the front of his new class as the teaching assistant. What follows is less a grand obstacle course than an accumulation of small, awkward collisions: shared assignments, part-time shifts, club schedules and the sheer impossibility of avoiding anyone on a campus this size. Family expectations press in as well, with Ma Ru's mother (Lee Ji-hae) adding weight to a life her son has not begun to explain to her. Each pairing is given room to stumble in its own way, and no two of them reach the same understanding at the same speed.

Directed by Jang Yeong-seon, who co-wrote the scripts with Kim Kyung-hwan, the ten-episode season was produced by Studio Yanggwibi and ran from 11 August to 8 September 2023, released in Korea on WATCHA, TVING, Wavve and Naver Series On and internationally on Rakuten Viki and GagaOOLala. Episodes run about thirty minutes apiece, which gives each of the three threads a little under a third of the season to work with. The tone stays close to the original: warm, low-conflict and far more interested in the nervousness before a confession than in the fallout after one. That runtime is split three ways, and Love Class 2 remains an easy, good-natured entry point into Korean campus BL.

6.5/10

Love Class 2 trades the first season's single pairing for an ensemble of three freshman romances, giving the franchise more scope, and more to juggle, across ten half-hour episodes.

The Couples

The standout thread is Lee Hyun (J-Min) and the enigmatic Kim An, layered with a little mystery, alongside the Ma Ru and Min Woo unrequited crush and the Ju Hyuk and Sung Min student and teaching assistant thread.

What to Expect

  • Ensemble format: three couples sharing ten half-hour episodes.
  • Campus obstacles: classes, jobs and clubs as natural friction.

The Verdict

A broader, busier sequel; Love Class 2 suits viewers who enjoy multi-couple campus BL told across ten episodes.

Final Score: 6.5/10

Ten half-hour episodes arrive in pairs.

The season ran from 11 August to 8 September 2023, two episodes at a time on Fridays across five release dates, a 28 day window. Ten episodes of about 30 minutes come to 300 minutes, five hours, against the two hours of the first season, Love Class, which released six 20 minute episodes on six consecutive days.

Studio Yanggwibi produced the season, with Jang Yeong-seon directing and co-writing with Kim Kyung-hwan. The story continues in Love Class Season 3.

The arithmetic of the season is worth keeping in mind. Three threads share 300 minutes, which works out to roughly a hundred minutes per couple, close to a feature film each, where the first season spent its whole 120 minutes on one pairing. The third season sits between the two at 240 minutes, sixteen episodes of fifteen minutes built around two couples.

The three threads also start from three different places. Lee Hyun and Kim An carry a backstory that began before the first episode, Ma Ru and Min Woo share a friendship that predates the story, and Ju Hyuk and Sung Min begin from a chance meeting with a second act waiting in the lecture hall. Different starting points give each pair its own kind of scene, which is how three romances can share one campus without repeating each other.

Jang Yeong-seon is credited as a writer on this season and on the third, so the franchise keeps one writing hand while the cast and setting change. A viewer can begin here without the first season: this one starts over, and its ensemble suits anyone who would rather sample three love stories than follow a single one for many hours.

Themes

The title stays 수업중입니다 and the class does not. Nothing in the second season is assigned. The course that pushed two strangers together in the first season is gone, and what replaces it as a matchmaking device is the timetable, the ordinary overlapping obligations of a university year. The institution has stopped arranging people and started preventing them from getting away from each other.

Read across, the three threads are one feeling in three different tenses. Kim An carries a past that ended without an explanation ever being offered. Min Woo carries a present that has never once been said aloud. Ju Hyuk carries something built to have no future at all, which then acquired one the moment the man turned up at the front of the room.

That is also why no two of the pairs move at the same speed. Each of them has a different amount of the story already behind it before the season starts, so the same campus year lands on three people at three separate points in a sentence they are all still finishing.

How it was made

The director's name is also romanised as Jang Young-sun, and Jeon Min-wook is billed under the name J-Min alongside Kim Yong-seok on the Korean Cinema Paradise channel, which is operated by KT Studio Genie.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does this season continue the first one?

No, it starts over. New faces, a new campus and three freshman romances replace the single pairing of the first season, so nothing from the earlier story carries across except the franchise name.

Does the title still describe what happens?

Less than before. The name stays 수업중입니다, class is in session, but the course that pushed two strangers together in the first season is gone. The themes section follows this up.

In what pattern did the ten episodes arrive?

Two at a time on Fridays, across five release dates from 11 August to 8 September 2023. At about 30 minutes each they run ten minutes longer per episode than the first season's twenty.

Who plays the central pair?

Jeon Min-wook plays Lee Hyun and Kim Yong-seok plays Kim An. Woo Hyo-won appears as Oh Min-woo, Lee Gwang-hee as Shin Ma-ru, Ahn Jeong-gyun as Yoo Ju-hyuk and Jung Woo-jae as Kim Seong-min.

Is one of the leads billed under another name?

Yes. Jeon Min-wook is also billed as J-Min.

How is the director's name romanised?

As Jang Yeong-seon, also written Jang Young-sun. The same person is credited as director and co-writer, working with Kim Kyung-hwan.

Where is it carried?

Among the services carrying it are Viki, GagaOOLala and TVING, the last of which is the Korean domestic service.

How does it fit the rest of the franchise?

It is the middle of three seasons. The first ran in May 2022, this one in August 2023, and the third in 2026, when the setting moved to the K-pop industry.
