Lee Seong-taek

BIOGRAPHY

Lee Seong-taek (Korean: 이성택) is a South Korean director and cinematographer whose credits move between the camera department and the director’s chair. He directed Love Class (2022), the first season of the Korean boys’ love franchise, working from Kim Kyung-hwan’s screenplay, and Korean records also give him a joint adaptation credit on the season alongside Choi Jae-yeon.

His documented work begins in 2016 as director of photography on two features, Stay with Me and Road To Utah. That camera background carried into his directing: on the 2024 series High School Return of a Gangster he is credited three ways, as creator, as director, and as its director of photography, a combination that stays rare even in Korean web and short-form production, where crews are small and roles routinely overlap. Korean entertainment press covering that production in May 2024 credited him as its director.

Across four documented credits he has worked in both feature film and serialised drama. Love Class, which began airing on May 13, 2022, remains the credit that places him in the boys’ love record; the franchise it opened has since run to a third season under other directors.

BLGLFlix editorial view

He shoots as well as directs, and on one production he was credited three times.

Lee Seong-taek (이성택) began in 2016 as a director of photography and moved between the camera department and the director’s chair from there. He directed Love Class in 2022 from Kim Kyung-hwan’s screenplay. On High School Return of a Gangster in 2024 he holds three credits on the same production: creator, director and director of photography.

A director who came up behind the camera works differently, and the difference is visible. Somebody who has spent years deciding where the lens goes tends to solve scenes with framing rather than with coverage, which on a small budget is not a style choice so much as the only way to finish on schedule.

Small Korean boys love productions run on exactly those constraints. Six episodes, a short shoot and a crew small enough that one person genuinely can hold two departments.

His name reaches the Latin alphabet as both Lee Seong-taek and Lee Sung-taek, and both are recorded so either search finds him.

His dated debut, professions and working range are documented. No birth date, agency or education appears, because nothing citable has published them.
