The Invisible Dragon

TV Series🇹🇭

What happens

The Invisible Dragon (เคียงมังกร) is an upcoming Thai BL drama from GMMTV, and it is built around one of the loudest, brightest traditions you can put on a screen: lion and dragon dancing. Khun is a young dancer with a big heart and an even bigger ambition. He wants to be the Lion's Head at the Dragon Festival, the dancer who leads the whole performance from the front.

There is a second thing on Khun's mind, and that is Earn. Earn is a gifted dancer too, but his focus sits somewhere else. He is set on summoning the dragon, a task tied to his family and its legacy. The catch is painful and personal. Earn was adopted, so the dragon blood that runs through the family line does not run through him, and he still has to carry their expectations as if it did.

Training throws the two young men together day after day, and the time they spend rehearsing slowly turns into something closer. The dragon itself brings a touch of the supernatural into an otherwise down to earth world of rehearsals and festival preparations. Standing between Khun and Earn is Leng, the obstacle the official outline names, so the road to the festival is not going to be a simple one.

First Kanaphan Puitrakul plays Earn and Khaotung Thanawat Ratanakitpaisan plays Khun. Namtan Tipnaree Weerawatnodom appears as Yok, Bright Rapheephong Thapsuwan as Khimhan, and Chai Chatayodom Hiranyasthiti as Leng. GMMTV presented the project at its GMMTV 2026 line up event on 25 November 2025, and the official pilot trailer went up on the GMMTV OFFICIAL YouTube channel the same day.

A dance with two heads and one heart

I will be honest with you: the moment I saw lion dancers in a GMMTV trailer, I sat up straight on my sofa like someone had called my name. Lion dance is all rhythm, trust and timing, because two people move as one creature and neither of them can see everything. If you wanted a ready made picture of a romance, you could hardly design a better one.

What I love about this setup is that the competition and the feelings point in different directions. Khun wants the spotlight at the front of the lion. Earn wants to call the dragon. They train side by side, they need each other to look good, and they are not even chasing the same prize. That is a lovely little knot for a love story to untie.

Family blood, chosen family

The detail that hooked me hardest is Earn's adoption. A family tradition that depends on dragon blood, carried by a son who does not share it, is a soft ache built right into the foundation of the story. Earn has to carry a legacy that was never his by birth, and I am already holding my tissues for whatever the trailer is hinting at.

The story asks Earn to choose between what his family expects and what his heart wants. I like that the choice is his to make. It gives him an inner fight that has nothing to do with the festival or with Leng.

FirstKhao in costume, and I am ready

First Kanaphan and Khaotung Thanawat have played opposite each other before, most famously in The Eclipse, so this is a pairing with history. Watching them step into a world of drums, costumes and festival lights is a new colour for them, and I cannot wait to see how they handle the physical side of dancing.

The supporting names make me happy too. Namtan Tipnaree has led her own GL stories, and seeing her around this pair as Yok is a treat. Chai Chatayodom as Leng brings a seasoned actor into the mix, and I am curious to see what kind of obstacle he turns out to be.

What we actually know so far

Everything here covers what has been announced: the pilot trailer, the main cast, the character names and the official outline. There is no premiere date, episode count or full crew list from GMMTV yet, so I am not giving this a score. When it airs I will come back and tell you whether the dragon showed up.
