What happens

This Love Doesn't Have Long Beans is a Thai Boys' Love comedy drama adapted from Ninepinta's novel. Its title comes from an argument over pad kra pao, the Thai stir-fry whose authentic version contains no long beans.

Chef Oab (Sailub Hemmawich Kwanamphaiphan) is cooking inside a restaurant succession contest. Plawan, called Whale (Pon Thanapon Aiemkumchai), a former model, arrives in that contest carrying an agenda he has not declared. Methas (Benz Atthanin Thaninphanuwiwat) and JJ (Garfield Pantach Kankham) make up the second pairing.

Plawan comes from a trade where the surface is the product, and Oab is judged on something that has to be tasted before it can be assessed. Putting one inside the other's kitchen sets the central relationship against a contest that tests authenticity under time pressure.

Change2561 produced the series and Nui Suttasit directed. Eight episodes ran on Fridays at 22:15 on Channel One31 from 5 July to 23 August 2024, with an uncut edition on iQIYI the same night. Netflix added it internationally in 2026.

Runtimes range from 46 minutes to 82 for the finale, which was screened in a cinema for roughly a thousand fans alongside the four leads. The novel was serialised on WebNovel and placed in the top three at the WebNovel Spirity Awards 2022 from more than 99,000 entries.

Let me start with the most important culinary fact in Thai BL: authentic pad kra pao does not contain long beans. Somebody, somewhere, is very upset about that, and This Love Doesn't Have Long Beans turns the argument into a whole romantic comedy. A chef, a former model with a secret plan, a restaurant succession contest, and a title that is basically a food rant.

Chef Oab Versus the Model With a Plan

Sailub Hemmawich Kwanamphaiphan plays Chef Oab, cooking his heart out in a contest that will decide a family restaurant's future. Pon Thanapon Aiemkumchai plays Plawan, nicknamed Whale, a former model who turns up with an agenda he is not sharing with anyone. One man's job was looking good. The other is judged on things you have to taste. Hidden agenda, culinary rivalry, workplace comedy that slides into romance: it is a very tasty recipe.

Pit Babe's Supporting Cast Gets Promoted

Here is the fun bit for Change2561 followers. This was the studio's second BL after Pit Babe, and six of the nine cast members came along. Sailub and Pon, who played Alan and Jeff on the racing team, step up to the leads, and Benz Atthanin Thaninphanuwiwat, Pit Babe's Kim, takes the second lead as Methas, paired with Garfield Pantach Kankham as JJ. It feels like a theatre troupe trying on new roles, and I am here for it.

Spicy Comedy, Rated MA

The mood is comic with drama simmering underneath, and the contest keeps everyone under pressure, since every kitchen scene is someone being judged. It is rated MA, so check that before a family movie night. Nui Suttasit directs, in a first BL after straight dramatic television, and the story comes from Ninepinta's novel, which placed in the top three at the WebNovel Spirity Awards 2022 out of more than 99,000 entries.

You will want pad kra pao, beans or no beans.
